Google Pixel 4 XL Review: Stunning camera, average phone

Hardly coming as a surprise to anyone after the sheer amount of leaks, Google has finally officially announced the Pixel 4 XL. Here's our first look.

Excellent camera for photos;Grippy body is a nice change from the usual, highly polished flagships;Smooth Display is a significant upgrade;Great software

Disappointing battery life;Lack of ultra-wide camera is a shame;Motion Sense features are currently limited;Storage options only up to 128GB

Superb camera, but underwhelming sound

Improved camera experience ; Useful motion gestures ; Better screen

Lacklustre sound quality ; Battery life takes a hit

Google ups its photography game to reinforce its reputation in an ever-evolving market

Google Pixel 4 review: Shooting for the stars

Google's fourth-gen Pixel brings with it Motion Sense gesture control and a great camera. But poor battery life and the competition let it down...

Great camera performance ; Pure Android software ; Exclusive smart features ; We love the tactile design - especially in Just White and Oh So Orange ; Great (albeit small) display

Battery life really isn't its strong suit ; Motion Sense gestures add little to nothing ; No wide-angle camera ; No third-party face unlock support - and no fingerprint scanner as backup

We love almost everything about the Pixel 4. It takes great photos, it looks and feels great, and has a brilliant camera. But its battery life definitely needs improving and the Motion Gestures are virtually useless.

Google Pixel 4 (and XL) review

Google's two new Pixels are almost identical - but can they set themselves apart from the competition?

Cracking camera ; It’s the vessel for all Android’s new bits ; Good speakers

Battery life is only OK ; No fingerprint scanner ; Bland design ; Stingy on storage

The purist’s Android choice, with clean software and a terrific camera – but it’s not the most dynamic flagship phone around

Hands on: Google Pixel 4 review

The Google Pixel 4 arrives alongside its larger sibling, the Google Pixel 4 XL , and offers up a cocktail of flagship photography features, including machine learning and other AI wizardry It's the successor to the Google Pixel 3 , but the...

Great camera gets even better Solid, grippy design

No fingerprint scanner No headphone jack Motion Sense is very basic

If you're in the market for a new camera-focused phone, the Google Pixel 4 looks set to be one of the best options around – but those looking for a feature-packed all-rounder may find Google's latest lacking in some areas.

Hands on: Google Pixel 4 XL review

The Google Pixel 4 XL is the new, big-screened flagship smartphone bearing the search giant's name, and arrives alongside its smaller sibling, the Google Pixel 4 . It's the direct replacement for the Pixel 3 XL , and like its predecessor the main...

Camera has lots of potential Large display, no notch

No fingerprint scanner Few hardware improvements

The Google Pixel 4 XL hasn't changed much from its predecessor, but aside from the extra camera lens and refined photo software, what changes there are might put off potential buyers. The notch is gone, with the top black bezel returning, and the...

Google Pixel 4 XL review: Same, but different

Soli, not Soli

Bold new design ; Bigger battery than regular Pixel 4 ; Camera is better than ever

Battery life is still unimpressive ; Lacks microSD and fingerprint sensor

Regardless, if you’re the stubborn sort that can’t be persuaded to look elsewhere (the formidable Galaxy S10 Plus is roughly the same price) then the Pixel 4 XL is still a smart choice – worthy of a recommendation for all its flaws.

Google Pixel 4 colours: Which hue will work for you?

Google is making fashion statements this autumn but which design will embellish your chilly hands?

In all honesty, you weren’t even considering buying a new phone had the Pixel’s orange glow not taken your eye outside that fateful Carphone Warehouse. This purchase will no doubt be short lived; resenting the fact it’s necessary to own a phone in...

Pixel 4 won’t include free full-resolution storage on Google Photos

Google is instead offering a three-month trial of its cloud storage subscription

Tellingly, Google is bundling in three months free of its Google One 100GB cloud storage plan with the Pixel 4. For users that need to keep the original quality of images stored on the cloud, the subscription model is being presented as a tantalising,...
