HTC 8XT review

The HTC 8XT is everything you could want in a budget Windows Phone smartphone

Great build and design ; Excellent battery life ; LTE connectivity ; Good price

Windows Phone 8 ecosystem ; Camera is lackluster ; Only comes in one color

The HTC 8XT is a solid Windows Phone 8 smartphone for a great price

HTC 8XT review: Sprint's first Windows Phone solid, not superb

Sprint's first Windows Phone solid, not superb

The ; is trim and attractive, runs long, and takes quality pictures. It also connects to Sprint’s growing 4G LTE network and has powerful speakers.

The HTC 8XT's dual-core processor is slow and applications handle sluggishly. Its Windows Phone 8 OS has a comparatively small app selection compared to Android and iOS.

Though the HTC Windows Phone 8X brings some needed OS freshness to Sprint, its sluggish processor and average display make it hard to recommend for anyone but committed Windows Phone 8 fans.

HTC 8XT review

The HTC 8XT doesn't seem designed to tempt customers to the platform nor is it likely to tempt Windows Phone lovers to Sprint when there are other carriers with superior selections.

The HTC 8XT is going to get a lot of attention for the design, just as the Windows Phone 8X did. Unfortunately, once customers get past the pretty exterior they’re not going to be as impressed with what’s under the hood. Almost everything about the 8XT...

HTC 8XT (Sprint)

The HTC 8XT smartphone would have been an interesting 2012 launch for Sprint, but coming a year after the similar HTC 8X, it's just meh.

Well-designed body. Windows Phone 8 is easy to use. Supports LTE.

Low-res screen. Too little built-in storage. Too similar (and in some ways inferior) to a year-old phone.

HTC also ditched the Verizon 8X's cordless-charging support, but you're far less likely to miss that. The 10 hours, 32 minutes of talk time was good but well short of the advertised "up to 14 hours," while 24 hours spent sitting inert on a desk left...

HTC 8XT Review

The HTC 8XT is Sprint's first Windows Phone 8 device, but despite the extra letter the 8XT isn't necessarily an upgrade to the 8X we liked last fall. While visually similar, there are some significant changes, such as the addition of BoomSound speakers...

Well designed, good looking device ; Combination of BoomSound speakers and Beats Audio make for great audio ; Good call quality

WVGA display is a step down from the 8X ; Color mismatches and an unnecessarily large camera bezel are visual stumbles

In the end we found ourselves enjoying the HTC 8XT, and are glad to see Windows Phone 8 finally make its way to all four major carriers. We once again are impressed with HTC’s ability to design a phone, but the device is not without compromises such as...

HTC 8XT review: a midrange phone in flagship clothing

It's the first Windows Phone with BoomSound & the first in years to land on Sprint - but does it deserve its flagship brand? Find out in our HTC 8XT review!

Attractive hardware design ; BoomSound lives up to its name ; Third-party ecosystem improving ; Camera viewfinder more useful than stock ; Micro SD expansion

Stuttery, unreliable UI ; Unremarkable screen, camera hardware ; Battery life sub-par

We want to like the 8XT as much as any other midrange Windows Phone – we really do. Its hardware is beautiful, its camera software is fun, and its BoomSound implementation is even better than the One’s. But its software just doesn’t measure up. Now, is...

Review: HTC 8XT for Sprint

Sprint's first Windows Phone 8 device to reach the market is the $99 HTC 8XT. This smartphone is a decent entry-point for the Windows Phone fan who needs a device on Sprint's network.

HTC 8XT

Comfortable to hold, attractive and distinctive, BoomSound stereo speakers are above the fray, pleasing albeit low resolution display, expandable storage

Low resolution display, only 8 gigs internal storage (mitigated by a microSD card slot)

Let's face it; if you're a Sprint customer, the HTC 8XT is your only choice among Windows 8 smartphones, though the Samsung ATIV S Neo should be coming by summer's end with largely comparable specs (except a bigger display) and a $150 on contract price...
