HTC Smart

HTC tries its hand at a small budget multitouch smartphone courtesy of the Brew operating system.

Good operating system, Good battery life

Resistive touchscreen, Disappointing display

HTC Smart review

The HTC Smart certainly looks the business, but is that beauty only skin deep?

Good battery life ; Cheap for a new handset ; Stylish design ; Compact form factor

Low resolution, resistive touch-screen ; No Wi-Fi ; No Exchange support ; Poor browser ; Slow data performance ; No GPS or map application ; No app store for adding functionality ; Terrible shutter lag on camera ; Low quality video recording

"Quietly Brilliant" – that's HTC's latest marketing slogan. And although we're not generally won over by such rhetoric, in this particular case, it rings pretty true.

HTC Smart

The HTC Smart has landed with O2 as an exclusive handset in the UK. At the press launch at Mobile World Congress, we were on hand to witness all those involved extol its virtues as an affordable smartphone. But does it fulfil this remit? Does the Smart...

Design, build, Sense looks great, affordable

Keyboard experience isn't great, closed system, low res, low power

The HTC Smart is designed to give smartphone features at a price that all can afford. We'd have liked to see Wi-Fi or GPS, but understand that you can't pack everything into a phone aimed at the cheaper end of the market.

HTC Smart review

Smartphones are all the rage in the mobile phone market, but a touchscreen interface doesn't make a regular mobile phone a smartphone. HTC's Smart is just a standard mobile, even though its name seems to suggest otherwise. The HTC Smart borrows many...

The HTC Smart does what it promises, providing an inexpensive phone for the masses with some smart features, like Facebook and Twitter integration, and a user-friendly interface. However the lack of an app store and its poor on-screen keyboard limit...

The slinky little Brew-running HTC Smart will be out soon on O2 and could be the low-cost high-ish-spec handset that you've been dreaming of for all these years, succeeding where the myriad Android-toting…

LG Cookie Fresh (GS290) Review

Here we are again at the end of my review and overall I have been pleasantly surprised with the performance of such a cheap to buy handset, yes the phone has it's negative things but it also has a lot going for itself but I wouldn't purchase it for...

HTC - Smart

The HTC Smart is something of an anomaly in the smartphone market. It doesn't run one of the well known operating systems, and it isn't all that smart. It looks a little quirky on the hardware ...

What HTC has done with the Smart is to produce a quite clever handset that is relatively low cost. It has a middle-of-the-road set of specifications but good looks, and that might be enough for those on a limited budget. But don't expect fully fledged...

HTC Smart review

A poor man's smartphone, at a mid-range price. Lacks too much to compete with even the cheapest Android handset.

But there’s ultimately no getting past the fact that the Smart is very much smartphone lite. The lack of apps, contact and calendar synchronisation, maps and GPS means it lags way behind the likes of even the cheapest Android handsets. And O2’s pricing...

HTC Smart review

A smartphone look and feel at a lower price

HTC Sense user environment; good screen; easy access to social networks

No Wi-Fi or GPS; browser experience not comparable to smartphones

The HTC Smart offers some touch-screen glamour at a relatively low price, and will suit buyers who are attracted by the user experience of a smartphone but do not necessarily want to download new applications. However, for existing smartphone users...
