Decent value ; Solid design ; Huge, good-quality screen ; Good battery life

Is big beautiful again?

Aluminium casing ; Decent fingerprint scanner ; Solid battery life

Annoying speaker placement ; Redundant bloatware ; Gesture control is hit and miss

This phablet does more right than it does wrong. Solid performance and manageable battery life with a great fingerprint scanner as the headline feature. Unfortunately, some UI issues do remain as does the presence of bloatware.

We've been using the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 for three weeks now, which is since the day it was unveiled at the IFA trade show in Berlin. Despite originally thinking "blimey, a 6-inch phone" we've become accustomed to this behemoth living in our pocket....

Decent and giant screen, considerable battery life, excellent fingerprint scanner, ample Android performance, battery life can last for an age, competitive price point, metal body design feels premium

Huawei Ascend Mate 7 is a metal giant with great battery life

 

The Huawei Ascend Mate 7 packs an enormous 6-inch screen, powerful octa-core processor and beefy battery into a slim metal body.

The Huawei Ascend Mate 7 packs a huge battery that keeps going for ages, its screen is bright and bold, the camera is pretty decent and the fingerprint sensor actually works.

It's running on an old version of Android, Huawei's software tweaks make it clunky to use and there's loads of bloatware installed as standard.

Although it's let down by its awkward software, the excellent battery life and big, bright screen help make the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 a decent choice for those of you looking for movies and games on the go.
