Huawei IDEOS X5

Smartphones are taking over the mobile phone scene, with budget conscious devices playing their part in bringing the expanded functionality of these devices to the mobile masses. TechSmart reviews one such phone, the Huawei IDEOS X5.

Very good and large display, good specs for budget device, pocket- and grip-friendly dimensions, 4 GB of storage.

Unprotected camera lens sticks out of the rear cover, camera lag, Android Froyo not the most up to date version of the mobile OS, and not the most affordable of the budget conscious Android group.

Huawei U8800 Ideos X5 review

Chances are, if you have had a broadband dongle in the past then it may have been made by Huawei. Having built a rock solid foundation with 3G dongles over the years Huawei are sailing, full steam, into the mobile phone world. Much like...

Overall, I quite liked the device. Aside from the mucky camera the rest is rather respectable. Originally the handset debuted at £250, which is a bit steep. You could pick up an HTC Desire for that. However, it has dropped considerably and you can even...

Huawei IDEOS X5 review

Huawei might not be a huge name in the UK yet but globally the handset manufacturer means business. The company is the biggest telecoms manufacturer is China and is second only to Ericsson worldwide.

Beautiful appearance, top notch Android OS, excellent camera and exciting menu appearance

Lack of power, unavoidable touch sensitive buttons, laggy scrolling and temperamental battery life.

A handset that proves looks aren’t everything and it is what is inside that counts. The IDEOS X5 doesn’t have the power to live up to its competitors, just a distracting appearance

Value for money ; Reasonably stylish design ; Decent specifications

If you want to buy a fully fledged Android smartphone without breaking the bank, the Huawei IDEOS X5 should be seriously considered. It offers all the features and functions of a top end Android smartphone for an excellent price.

Huawei Ideos X5 (unlocked) review: Huawei Ideos X5 (unlocked)

Huawei Ideos X5 (unlocked)

The Huawei Ideos X5 has a clear, sharp display, a decent camera, HD 720p video capture, and a touch of premium styling.

There's no camera shutter button, the microSD card is behind the back cover, and call quality was variable.

The Huawei Ideos X5 has all the ingredients of a satisfying Android phone, but it faces stiff competition from the top and middle of the pack.
