LG Optimus 3D Max

The LG Optimus 3D Max, known as the 3D Cube in LG's hometown of Korea is the company's second 3D smartphone, and looks set to impress with its enhanced spec sheet.

The handset, as expected, is much slimmer than its chunky older brother, measuring in at 126.8 x 67.4 x 9.6 mm. The 3D Max also tips the scales as a pocket friendly 148g, 20g lighter than its last-gen sibling.

LG Optimus 3D Max Android phone (preview)

LG Optimus 3D Max preview: LG's second attempt at a glasses-free 3D smartphone

Thinner and lighter than predecessor ; NFC chip and LG Tag+ capability ; 3D editing tools

Display can't match rivals ; Only minor upgrades ; No Australian ETA

The Optimus 3D Max is the successor to the original Optimus 3D. It aims to improve on it thanks to a slimmer design and a larger screen, but on paper, most up the upgrades appear to be minor ones.

LG Optimus 3D Max Android phone

LG's Optimus 3D Android phone wasn't a one-off for the company, despite many labelling the glasses-free 3D technology as a gimmick.

LG Optimus 3D Max P720 review: Remastered

It's been almost a year since the release of the original Optimus 3D from LG, and in that time we've been watching 3D technology continue to evolve. Undoubtedly you've seen the changes in your local cinema, and even your living room, if you happen...

Quad-band GSM and 3G support ; 21 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA ; 4.3" 16M-color capacitive LCD stereoscopic touchscreen of WVGA resolution (480 x 800 pixels) ; Android OS v2.3 Gingerbread with LG 3D UI ; Dual-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A9 proccessor,...

Runs Gingerbread ; Less than impressive camera performance ; Still limited third-party 3D apps market ; Questionable outdoor performance ; Not the best dual-core performance ; Got rid of the microHDMI port, MHL instead

The LG Optimus 3D Max and the original Optimus 3D are so much alike you may have trouble figuring out the differences. Minor changes can sometimes make a big difference but one particular difference is not so hard to notice and, to us, it may as well...

LG Optimus 3D Max (unlocked) review: LG Optimus 3D Max (unlocked)

In a world full of cheap gimmicks, it seems easy to slap on the 3D moniker in order to compensate for a product that isn't up to par. (Remember that Justin Bieber movie, "Never Say Never"? Exactly.)

The LG Optimus 3D Max has a speedy dual-core processor and a crisp display, and it's equipped with an NFC chip and tag stickers.

The LG Optimus 3D Max's display has a narrow viewing angle when in 3D mode, and the 3D software is still buggy. Also, until an upgrade comes you're stuck on Android Gingerbread.

On its own, the 3D Max is a solid dual-core phone with some neat NFC-enabled features. But the hiccuping 3D feature, although cool, is a drag.

LG Optimus 3D Max review

The Optimus 3D Max is perhaps the most puzzling entry in LG's 2012 lineup. Priced at €499.99 (around $635) SIM-free in the EU, it's something of a second flagship (behind the incoming Optimus 4X HD)...

3D movies look great ; 3D converter has potential ; LG Tag+ is useful ; Seems built to last

3D sweet spot is too small ; Awful skin ; Buggy software ; Outdated OS ; Lackluster specs ; Ugly design

There are so many better phones out there for this price
