Motorola Moto Z4

The Motorola Moto Z4 is a solid phone for die-hard Moto Z-series fans or 5G early adopters, but the Google Pixel 3a XL is a far better value for everyone else.

Supports 5G with Moto Mod on Verizon. Excellent battery life. Good overall performance.

Inaccurate display colors. Hit-or-miss fingerprint sensor. Poor speaker quality. Not waterproof.

If you want to dip your toe in the 5G waters, or you want to continue to use your existing collection of Moto Mods, the Moto Z4 is a solid option. If you aren't concerned with owning a 5G phone just yet (and you shouldn't be until far more coverage is...

Motorola Moto Z4 review: lost in the crowd

Motorola's latest Z phone has a familiar feel with familiar baggage.

Great battery life ; Premium fit and finish, at least without a Mod ; Clean software with useful features

Terrible fingerprint scanner ; Only a single speaker ; Mods don’t fit as well as they do on older Moto Z phones

At full price, the Moto Z4 is a tougher sell. Sure, the battery life is great, and the display is surprisingly good, but I’d be more inclined to buy last year’s OnePlus 6T for a similar price and get faster performance, even better software, and better...

Motorola Moto Z4 review: The cheapest 5G phone you can buy but shouldn't

It's a midrange phone overshadowed by the Pixel 3A and the OnePlus 6T.

The $500 Moto Z4 and the $349 5G Moto Mod make this the most affordable 5G phone besides last year's Moto Z3. The battery is an absolute monster.

The phone's in-screen fingerprint reader rarely works on the first attempt. Moto Mods don't fit smoothly with the curved edges of the Z4.

As a budget phone, the Moto Z4 doesn't beat the similarly priced Pixel 3A XL or OnePlus 6T. So unless you're a 5G early adopter (which requires a $349 Mod), or you're already invested in Motorola's Moto Mod ecosystem, skip the Moto Z4.
