Palm Pre

With the Palm Pre finally set to arrive in the UK, Ed finds out if it has been worth the wait.

Opening the phone up also makes it impossible to use the device one handed as you can't reach all of the touch screen so you must either bring a second hand into play or constantly open and close the keyboard as you flit between navigating and typing.

Palm Pre review

Palm's great hope finally makes its debut on UK shores

Multi-tasking apps ; Great media phone ; Accurate touch screen ; Responsive ; Card interface is powerful ; Push e-mail from Exchange

Cheap plastic case ; No video recording ; Fiddly keyboard ; Interface requires practise ; Poor app selection

In the end, this is what makes the Palm Pre so compelling, and a better choice for savvy computer users than the Apple iPhone or even the highly extensible T-Mobile G1. It's a new mobile computing paradigm more than a highly useful phone

Palm Pre

The Palm Pre has its merits undoubtedly, but it's not the brilliant all-rounder we hoped for

Innovative, intuitive WebOS interface ; full Qwerty keyboard and multi-touch screen ; supports multiple open apps ; 8GB of memory

Opening apps is sluggish and it takes an age to turn on ; music and video lack a little sparkle ; overall design has flaws

Hit and miss performance Drag and drop some music and video to the '8GB' internal memory (there's around 7GB available to use) and while the interface for content is clean, it's a touch sluggish.

In the lightning-fast world of mobile tech, few manufacturers ever recover from a run of poor devices. They might get swallowed up (like Ericsson or Siemens) or simply fade away (like Motorola?) but it's the rare company that makes a Rocky-style...

Sleek and compact, superb touch UI, multitasking, excellent organisational skills

Under-powered processor, short on software and storage, cut and paste is rubbish

Palm’s near death experience has had an impressive effect. The revitalised company hasn’t just updated its PDA for the twenty-first century, it has crafted a fun, practical and drop-dead gorgeous smartphone that stands close comparison with Apple’s...

Small, interface, QWERTY keyboard, features

Might not be 3G

Palm Pre review

The smallest of all the smartphones we tested, the Palm Pre has desirability in spades, along with a truly wonderful interface.

This is a superlative smartphone that, a few stuttering moments aside, has stolen our hearts every bit as much as the iPhone did when we first tried it. Not perfect, but a hell of a phone.

Palm Pre review

The Pre is interesting but flawed: it has some amazing features but is let down by a slow processor, poor battery life and software quirks.

Palm Pre review

A day is a long time in the tech world, so for Palm's Pre to rock up in the UK almost a year after it was first announced seems like a recipe for

Pin-sharp screen ; Multitasking apps ; Proper QWERTY keyboard ; Excellent contacts organisation

Choice of apps is small ; No video recording ; Bulkier than the iPhone

A tidy smartphone for those who don’t ‘get’ the iPhone, but the lack of apps left us wanting

Palm Pre review - smartphone reviews and video

After almost a year after its announcement, Palm's Pre has arrived in the UK. But with smartphones moving so fast, has it turned up to the party too late?

Proper QWERTY keyboard. Pin-sharp screen. Excellent contacts organisation. Multi-tasking apps

Choice of apps is small. Bulkier than the iPhone. No video recording
