Review: AT&T Samsung BlackJack II 3G, great for abroad

We have had the AT&T Samsung BlackJack II Windows smartphone sent to us and was a little optimistic at first, being similar to a BlackBerry which I have never got used to gave me some horrid thoughts. In my own mind I feel that these types of phones...

Samsung Samsung BlackJack II

Samsung took almost everything about the first BlackJack and turned it up a notch, making a good PDA phone a little better. Though the BlackJack II doesn't look drastically different from the original and still leaves room for improvement, the subtle...

Improved keypad design ; Feels responsive and offers useful apps

Mediocre sound quality ; Feels cheap; easily shows thumbprints

This slim, good-performing smart phone can handle your calling, messaging, and mobile-entertainment needs.

Samsung BlackJack II (SGH-I617)

Samsung updates its popular BlackJack smartphone by adding some welcome features—while still keeping the price down.

Sharp styling. Improved QWERTY keyboard. Good voice quality. Fast 3G performance. Battery life tops that of other HSDPA-enabled devices.

Still no Wi-Fi. Windows Mobile 6 is as sluggish as usual. Poor camera.

Samsung BlackJack II review

One of the more popular smartphones of 2007 was the Samsung BlackJack , and it's not hard to see why. It offered solid messaging capabilities, 3G support, and good call quality, all wrapped up into one attractive and sleek package. However, the love...

The Samsung BlackJack II improves on its predecessor with Windows Mobile 6; GPS; a 2-megapixel camera; and more memory and better performance. The smartphone also features a larger display and enhanced full QWERTY keyboard as well as HSDPA support,...

The front jog wheel feels loose and unresponsive, and the smartphone uses Samsung's proprietary connector port for headsets and other accessories. The BlackJack II lacks Wi-Fi, and there's also no support for voice dialing. We also had some ActiveSync...

Although the Samsung BlackJack II doesn't bring any revolutionary upgrades, there are a number of welcome additions, including GPS and better performance, to make it a worthy successor and a good-value smartphone.

The original BlackJack was seen by many as an outstanding smartphone but had some major disadvantages, such as the battery life. Samsung went back to the drawing board and cooked up the BlackJack II with the target of improving on the original design....

Samsung Jack Review

The Samsung Jack has a focus on mobile messaging -- both business and personal. Jen Edwards brings us this review of the successor the very popular BlackJack and BlackJack II.

Very thin and light, Five-way navigator is easy to use, without any misplaced/unintended button presses, External speaker better than most, Very good camera

Voice quality could be much better, Performance is good, but not as snappy as it should be

Samsung Jack / BlackJack II

The Blackjack is back, and Samsung has made some improvements, mostly marginal. The Blackjack II sports a 1700 mah battery, which is key, since the prior model was heavily criticized for having an inferior battery. It also ships with Windows Mobile 6,...

Samsung Blackjack-2-SGH-617 Black

Blackjack II is a solid improvement over its predecessor. There's nothing revolutionary here, but faster hardware, improved battery life, and speedy 3G data make this a worthy update to the popular original.

Compact, stylish Windows Mobile 6 smartphone ; HSDPA (3G) high speed data ; Improved battery life ; GPS ; Center mounted jog wheel

QWERTY keys are a little small and a little slippery ; No touchscreen ; Display is smallish for a smartphone
