Samsung Pixon 12 review

The camphone megapixel race is on again. But is the Pixon 12 too much of a good thing?

The Pixon 12 is chunky but highly usable and the most advanced camphone we’ve seen – for now

Samsung Pixon mobile phone

Samsung is the latest phone manufacturer to enter the 8-megapixel camera phone market. So will this replace your camera? We get snapping to find out. Officially named the Pixon (or the M8800), the new snapper-come-phone from the Samsung is 13.8mm...

Interface, design, touchscreen

Some camera features don’t deliver, battery life, screen appears milky at times

Whilst you are supplied with a flash, the Pixon seems to prefer being outdoors, with plenty of light and not using that flash. In this state it falls against other compact cameras especially where you are likely to use this type of camera – in the pub,...

Do more megapixels make for a better mobile?

Great OLED screen ; Top notch camera ; Improved touchscreen ; Better texting accuracy ; Xenon flash and power LED

Extravagant price ; Poor battery life ; Clunky internet ; No 3.5mm jack ; Resistive touchscreen

A decent first 12MP phone on the market, but a benchmark the rivals are likely to beat

Samsung Pixon 12 review

The Samsung Pixon 12 actually looks more like a camera than a mobile phone. The rear features a bulging lens with a mechanical lens cover (similar to many dedicated digital cameras) and a Xenon flash.

Samsung's Pixon 12 is a great camera phone but lacks in a few other areas. If you're purely after a camera phone then this will do the job, but if you're looking for more of an all-round smartphone, the Pixon 12 fails to deliver.

Samsung - Pixon 12

High megapixel counts don't always make for the best cameras. In fact at a time when digital camera makers are concentrating on things other than raw pixel count, mobile phone manufacturers are still trying to beat ...

The camera is a very good performer, but really, if you want this many megapixels you'd be much better off investing in a digital camera and separate mobile phone.

Samsung GT-M8910 Pixon 12 cameraphone

The wide angle lens with only a digital zoom won't win over camera buffs but its image uploading features may well appeal to amateurs and bloggers alike.

The whole point of the Samsung GT-M8910 Pixon 12 is its camera. We’d argue that the megapixel count is overkill, but we do think images were clear and of good quality, and that most of the camera settings and extras are worth having. However, if you...

Samsung Pixon 12 review

We review the Samsung Pixon 12 and its would-be mighty 12 megapixel camera

Sturdy build quality ; AMOLED touch screen ; 12 megapixel camera with Xenon flash ; Quad band GSM ; HSDPA 3G ; Wi-Fi ; A-GPS

Bulky shape ; High price ; Quirky browser ; No 3.5mm jack plug

A fine camera and a decent overall spec, but using it isn't as fun as it should be
