Sony Xperia X Performance: The Sony smartphone everyone should be talking about

You may have heard by now that Sony announced a new line of Xperia devices at Mobile World Congress, called the X series. The next Xperia flagship is due to launch in the latter half of this year and if it looked just like the Xperia X Performance with...

Sony Xperia X Performance review

Sony's high-end Android phone is seriously lacking

Fetching design ; Water-resistant ; Expandable storage

High cost ; Some mid-range specs ; Lacks fingerprint sensor ; Disappointing camera

It's as if Sony doesn't realize how cutthroat this market is. Snapdragon 820 performance, waterproofing and microSD support aside, there's not enough here to recommend this overly expensive Android phone.

Sony Xperia X Performance review

If you're a "Top Gun" type and expect your phone to have the power of a jet engine, then you're exactly who Sony had in mind with the Xperia X Performance.

Absolutely brimming with power, the Sony Xperia X Performance is well designed and the only new Xperia to be waterproof.

Battery life needs a big boost for this phone to live up to its potential.

The Xperia X Performance runs rings around the basic Xperia X and is a great phone for anyone who likes their handsets with a bit of grunt.

Sony Xperia X Performance doesn't live up to its name

When performance loses all meaning...

Snaps quality pics ; Waterproof ; Unlocked for AT&T and T-Mobile in the U.S.

Lacks fingerprint reader ; Sluggish performance ; High price doesn't match overall experience

The Sony Xperia X Performance's sluggish performance and missing flagship features isn't worth its flagship $700 price tag.

Sony Xperia X Performance review: $700 worth of disappointment

Sony, what are you doing? Though the $700 Xperia X Performance features a flagship-level processor and runs well as a result, Sony apparently didn't feel the need to bring anything new to the table. What we have here is a reasonably good smartphone...

Flagship-level performance ; Water-resistant design ; Lightweight, unobtrusive Android skin

Not worth the asking price ; Lacks some features you'd expect from a flagship ; Middling camera ; Occasionally overheats

If anyone from Sony is reading this, here's a serious question: What were you trying to accomplish with the X Performance? It's a perfectly passable flagship, but is this really the sort of flagship you want your name attached to? I don't mean to be...

Sony Xperia X Performance (32GB, graphite black)

The X Performance (never to be called the XP, I'm told by Sony) is the turbo-charged version of the Xperia X . Sony has packed more processing power into the Performance, along with speedier LTE 4G connectivity and a slightly bigger battery. Other than...

Sony Xperia X Performance

The unlocked Sony Xperia X Performance packs a top-of-the-line processor and a good camera, but it's missing some key features you'd expect from a high-end phone, and it suffered from overheating in testing.

Fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. Solid camera. Latest software and minimal bloatware. Expandable storage. IP68 waterproofing.

Overheating issues in testing. Mediocre battery life. Relatively low-resolution display. No fingerprint scanner.

Conclusions For $700, the Sony Xperia X Performance doesn't bring anything new or particularly interesting to the table. It does have some of the hardware you'd expect from a top-tier phone, but the 1080p display, middling battery life, and overheating...

Sony Xperia X Performance Review

Sony's newest smartphone delivers a fantastic camera and hardware that's worth the cash. Early reviews of this device have been mixed, for reasons from the device having an "underwhelming camera" to the device having an "awkward volume control...

The Sony Xperia X Performance suffers from Sony’s inability to survive only on their basic software finesse and high-quality hardware builds. That’s unfortunate. Instead they seem to have to jam in as much software and promotions as they can to make...
