Sony Xperia Z5

Sitting between the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact and Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, the regular Z5 might seem like the least interesting of the trio. It doesn't have the small, yet powerful nature of the Compact or the 4K display of the Premium.

Fantastic display ; Camera works well in varying conditions ; Excellent fingerprint scanner

Uncomfy design ; Dated UI ; It gets too hot

Sony Xperia Z5 review

A solid performer from Sony, but not the leap we expected from the Z3...

Improved sound quality ; Good fingerprint scanner ; Sharp photos ; Crisp, rich picture ; Fast operational speed

Runs too warm ; Only Full HD screen ; Screen could be brighter ; Angular design less ergonomic ; Not innovative enough

A solid flagship smartphone, but not the innovator we hoped for

Sony Xperia Z5 review: would Bond really use this phone?

Here we are again - a new phone for Bond to tote in SPECTRE

New revised design ; Improved camera ; New fingerprint sensor

Expensive end of the line ; No wireless charging ; Still getting hot

Sony Xperia Z5 review: Flagship foibles

Sony fell over its feet with the Xperia Z3+ , a device that seemed to undo some of the great work laid down by the Xperia Z3 it replaced . With Sony seemingly sticking to unrelenting smartphone churn, however, the Z3+ is wiped away a mere four months...

Great design and finish, good camera performance, fingerprint scanner

Can get hot, software slow, battery life isn't as good as it was in older devices

For all the posturing of the Sony Xperia Z5, there is something that's incremental about it. The design has progressed a tiny amount and for the most part we like it, but it's not a dramatic move like we've seen from Samsung, so will likely be...

Sony Xperia Z5 review

Three months since Sony's last flagship phone, the next one has arrived. So what's changed this time?

Neat fingerprint scanner ; Punchy screen ; Attractive colours and glass back

Battery life worse than previous Zs ; Gets warm an awful lot ; Feels late to the party ; A harsher in-hand feel than rivals

It's no pack leader but the Xperia Z5 is a good choice if you love Sony's style.

Sony Xperia Z5 review

Sony's last Z series phone packs some impressive tech

Major design improvements ; Great fingerprint sensor ; Stronger battery life

Expensive ; No wireless charging ; Still heating up

The Xperia Z5 is a huge improvement on the Xperia Z3+ with a new fingerprint sensor and a sexy design, but there are still a few little issues stopping it from getting that perfect score.

Sony Xperia Z5 review

The Xperia Z5 is expensive, but it has the best LCD display around, superb performance and a top-class design

The only problem is pricing, as now the Samsung Galaxy S6 has dropped to around £410 SIM-free and £32-per-month, the Z5 starts to look rather expensive by comparison, starting at either £550 SIM-free or £37.50-per-month with an upfront cost of £20 on...

Sony Xperia Z5 review: The flagship phone that needs some extra buzz

Sony's Xperia Z5 has decent specs for a flagship, but its familiar design means it doesn't have the excitement of its rivals.

The Sony Xperia Z5 looks good, has plenty of power, its camera can take some great snaps and it won't die when you spill your drink on it.

Only minor updates from its predecessor means it lacks the excitement of its rivals. Its waterproofing no longer allows for full submersion, meaning it can't be used for underwater photography.

Even with strong specs befitting a high-end phone, the Sony Xperia Z5 adds little over its predecessor to make it an exciting option over rivals like the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.

Sony Xperia Z5 vs Samsung Galaxy S6: What's the best Android phone?

Sony's back with a bang, but can it take on the king of the Android phone market? It's Z5 vs S6 in our comparison review

If you're buying these phones SIM-free then the Samsung Galaxy S6 wins, more than £200 cheaper, faster, with a higher-resolution screen and an excellent camera. If you're buying on a contract, though, the Galaxy just got some real competition - the...

Sony Xperia Z5 review

The new flagship gets fingerprint scanner and upgraded camera

There's no doubt that the Xperia Z5 is a solid flagship smartphone from Sony and an improvement on the Z3+. We certainly like the new frosted glass rear cover and the addition of a fingerprint scanner in that slim power button. Once again, the camera...
