Dell UltraSharp 1907FP 19

 

ViewSonic's $279 (as of January 12, 2007) VG930m is a good, utilitarian display, though it has some design quirks.

Conveniently-placed USB ports

Confusing on-screen controls

Dell's 19-incher displayed clean text, but its graphics didn't look as vibrant as on other models.

Dell UltraSharp 1907FP

High-end design and ergonomics; low price; better-than-average image quality; high degree of connectivity.

Lightweight base is a bit wobbly; onscreen menu lacks exit option; no dedicated brightness buttons; contrast adjustment not available for DVI-D signal.

With good performance, a stylish design, and all the flexibility we could ask for in a monitor, the Dell UltraSharp 1907FP is one of the few entries in the budget display category that we highly recommend.

Now that it's Dell's time to be in the hot seat, just how will the 1907FP stand up to our testing?

Good value, highly adjustable stand, USB ports, reliable performance

VERDICT: 8

Indeed, the 1907FP was a reliable performer in all of our tests, though we did detect subtle image ghosting in one gaming test, but only where high contrast—a black object against a light sky—exaggerated the effect.
