Dell Crystal review

Dell has designed what might be the world's most beautiful monitor – but can this 22-incher justify its monstrous price tag?

Nothing else comes close to the design, but you can get better performance for much less

While Dell's stylish 22in Crystal monitor will appeal to fashion-conscious users and those after a display with multimedia capabilities, the extremely reflective glass coating makes it irritating to use under normal lighting conditions.

Stylish design, built-in webcam speakers and microphone, good contrast

Glossy reflective screen can be extremely problematic, touch-sensitive controls can be fiddly, viewing angles not perfect

Dell Crystal Monitor

Dell's much anticipated Crystal display is here and ready for a spot on your desk. Priced at nearly $1200 (as of 5/13/08), however, this monitor is primarily for people with deep pockets--or folks with a need to wow friends and colleagues.

Beautifully designed display Nicely integrated speakers

Incredibly expensive Should have better image quality

With all of that great design and engineering--not to mention the hefty price--you might expect this monitor to outdo every other 22-inch display. In our PCW lab tests, however, we found that in overall image quality the Dell Crystal ranked fifth out...

Dell Crystal - 22 inches (wide screen) review: Dell Crystal - 22 inches (wide screen)

Aesthetically pleasing design; built-in speakers; great performance, especially in color reproduction; elegant and practical onscreen display.

Sky-high price puts it out of reach for most of us; lack of connection options; nonadjustable screen height.

For boardrooms and public spaces in need of a LCD conversation piece, the Dell Crystal might find a home. For those not operating on a bloated corporate budget, however, there are plenty of other 22-inch LCDs that cost a fraction of the cost.

Dell Crystal

Although the performance is okay, Dell's Crystal is best left to those who want to prove they have money.

Decent webcam ; Good quality for a TN screen ; Sound is above usual quality ; HDMI and DVI input ; New menu is excellent ; Definite luxury feel

Stand doesn't let you adjust the height or swivel ; Glass plating means huge amount of glare ; Ordinary screen capability considering the cost ; Glowing logos which can't be turned off ; Non-removable cable ; Colossal luxury price

We're definitely a fan of luxury pieces, but the Crystal just doesn't add up value-wise, especially when you can get three SP2208WFPs for the same price, or a larger screen for significantly less.

Dell Crystal

Dell's newest 22-inch display—one remarkable enough to win attention and awards at this year's Consumer Electronics Show—retails for $1,200 dollars. Go figure, then, that it's called the Dell Crystal, although the Dell Diamond works too. Because when...

Beautiful colors for a beautiful exterior; innovative, unique monitor design

Absurd glare, low grayscale range, distorting presets, fussy touch-buttons, the price

The Crystal comes with no functional inputs: a single cord splits into four adapters for power, subwoofer out, USB (for the included webcam), and an HDMI/DVI connection. The included speakers and touch-friendly buttons are pleasant additions to the...
