HP Deskjet 2540 review

Can this low-cost printer deliver a high-quality performance?

Fantastic price ; Wi-Fi connectivity ; Mobile printing ; Good photo prints ; Acceptable text printing

No colour screen ; No borderless printing ; No auto Duplex ; No internal paper tray ; Slow

If you're looking for a solid photo printer or an all-in-one for the home office, look elsewhere. If, however, you bought your PC for email and the web, and want a cheap and cheerful inkjet to retire the battered old typewriter you use to write the...

HP Deskjet 2540 review - still one of the cheapest inkjets

With wireless networking and support for mobile printing, this MFP can't print photos but would work well in a home office

A HP AiO Device : HP Deskjet 2540

It has been a while since I last had the opportunity to check out a HP printer. If memory serves me correct, this unit was a home photo printing model that I reported on in 2008. It was therefore quite a surprise when HP's PR agency rang me up out of...

Excellent for the price

Replaced a Canon Pixma which ate ink cartridges, for almost the price of a set of Canon ink cartridges. It does everything you need for home use and is more economical on ink by a long way. Cost £45 from John Lewis 6 months ago delivered via my local...

Good all-rounder

  (Rating Hidden)

I have now had this machine for six months and use it mainly for printing and scanning. I use it almost always via wi-fi (I have used the USB connection when away from home without a network). It was easy to set up initially, logging on to my home...

Do not buy if you expect to scan pages from books

  (Rating Hidden)

To scan a page from a book without getting light in often requires you to push the book down hard onto the sight glass, particularly in the area of the spine. This printer has an inwardly sloping front so if you push down hard there, it tips over.

Impressive printer for the price

  (Rating Hidden)

I purchased this for the Wi-Fi capability and printing from my smartphone. Both easy to set up. Print quality is good and so is the photocopying. A cheap, basic printer which I would recommended.

If you prefer to use refilled cartridges - beware

  (Rating Hidden)

This is one of the HP printers that requires an HP301 cartridge that is equipped with the V1 chip. This chip is billed as a security device enabling you to lock a cartridge to a specific printer, so that the cartridge cannot be used anywhere else. This...
