It can print, copy, scan and fax, but will this pricey multifunction inkjet woo potential buyers?

The SmartSolutions system offers an increasing range of applets, which can be downloaded to the Pinnacle and other Pro range all-in-ones. It’s a convoluted process though, where you have to create an account and select your applets from a computer and...

Admirably, Lexmark has customised the Lexmark Pinnacle Pro901's setup routine by skill level. If you want hand-holding, you can click through a long parade of dialog boxes that explain every minute detail, from plugging in the AC cord to inserting the...

The Lexmark Pinnacle Pro901 is a worthy contender for your small-office pounds. Though we consider the Canon Pixma MX870 a better overall package for a lower price, the Pinnacle Pro901 supplies the cheapest black ink and the longest warranty.

Lexmark Pinnacle Pro901 review: Lexmark Pinnacle Pro901

Lexmark Pinnacle Pro901

The ; grabs your attention with its penny-per-page black ink costs and its large, color touch-screen control panel. It's also fast with printing photos and quiet during operation, and it boasts a five-year warranty.

In order to hit such a low black-ink cost, the Lexmark Pinnacle Pro901 turns out text that isn't as deep black as competing models, and Lexmark's SmartSolutions app site is poorly designed. Plus, it's slow with copies.

The Lexmark Pinnacle Pro901 is a well-designed, compact multifunction printer, and its low cost per page helps it earn our recommendation for those who can stomach slower print speeds.

Lexmark Pinnacle Pro901

The Lexmark Pinnacle Pro901 color inkjet multifunction printer (which handles printing, scanning, copying, and faxing) is priced on the high side ($300 as of June 4, 2010), but it's packed with features that would satisfy a busy home or small office. ...

Five-year warranty ; Inexpensive, high-yield black ink ; Wealth of features, including a touchscreen

Flimsy input tray ; Expensive standard-size inks

You pay more for the machine but less for its ink, which is a reasonable trade-off--especially considering the plentiful features that accompany this MFP.

cheap ink cartridge refills and that's it.

There is something fundamentally wrong with the way the cartridge puts the ink on the paper. I've no problem with it self-calibrating before it starts printing, but then (1) it puts shaded blocks on the page (2) often makes the print faint. I should...
