InFocus SP8600

A full HD DLP projector with a DarkChip 3 chipset for under £800? InFocus must be losing its mind.

Incredibly low price ; Great pictures for the money ; Surprising degree of calibration flexibility

Some rainbow effect ; No vertical image shift ; Shortage of shadow detail

Don’t be put off by the little list of negatives we finished up with back there. The bottom line with the SP8600 is that even if it cost £1100 it would be a good projector. So for the measly sum of £800 - with a 5-year parts warranty, let’s not forget...

InFocus SP8600 review

Can £800 really buy you a quality hi-def home cinema projector?

Good value and general picture quality ; Flexible picture settings ; Long warranty

Minor rainbowing ; Dark scenes can lack shadow detail

InFocus SP8600 review

The InFocus SP8600 promises a huge picture for less outlay

Detailed, balanced, grown-up images ; can produce huge pictures ; bright lamp ; good spec

Blacks are a little light ; no lens shift and long throw can make it tricky to position

It’s not perfect, but the big, pretty pictures are undeniably tempting at £800

InFocus SP8600 review

Usually projectors that cost less than £800 are either aimed at the business/education markets or absolutely rubbish. And there can be no hiding place for shoddiness when you're watching a picture that's 100in wide or more.

Good value and general picture quality; flexible picture settings; long warranty

Minor rainbowing; dark scenes can lack shadow detail

Infocus SP8600 review

It might look more like a business projector than something aimed at the home cinema market, but the InFocus SP8600 makes up for its plain design in other areas – particularly with its price. For less than £700, it's one of the best equipped...

One of the cheapest 1080p projectors we’ve seen, but it’s a false economy. BenQ’s W1060 is better for only a little more

InFocus ScreenPlay SP8600 review

The InFocus ScreenPlay SP8600 is a quality projector for a budget price.

We've seen budget 1080p projectors before, but few are able to offer the level of quality and features required to go beyond mere resolution and deliver smooth life-like moving images. The InFocus SP8600 takes such tasks in its stride and is available...

Even at this price, it’s difficult to recommend the SP8600. It might have more inputs and outputs than more expensive projectors, but it can’t compete in terms of picture quality, particularly if you’re susceptible to the rainbow effect. We recommend...

InFocus SP8600

At a time where you can buy projectors for under £400, the £800 asking price of the InFocus SP8600 seems pretty high. Then again, this DLP projector has a lot to offer, and the image it's capable of producing actually makes it a bit of a bargain. The...

The InFocus SP8600 is an excellent projector for both home and office use – its stunning array of colours makes it perfect for movie use, with the 1800 Lumens brightness output making it equally ideal for presentations. It may not match LED projectors...
