Mitsubishi HC3800 review

Mitsubishi's HC3800 is a 1080p DLP compact home cinema projector, so it's easily placed in any room without taking up much space. Its lamp brightness is a little lower than most similarly priced projectors, but this isn't a problem for watching movies...

With beautiful colour and a virtually non-existent rainbow effect, the HC3800 has the best picture quality we've ever seen from a DLP projector and even outshines many LCD models.

Review: Mitsubishi HC3800 HD Projector

Mitsubishi's HC3800 home projector is a nicely-priced system displaying at 1080p Full HD, which offers a good alternative to large HD TVs for those seeking the big screen experience from the comfort of your own home.

There’s much to love about Mitsubishi’s HC3800 and it is an excellent entry-level option which comes at a highly attractive price. Its picture quality is excellent and although it may be lacking in connections and features, as a basic projector the...

Mitsubishi HC3800 Budget DLP Projector

The HC3800 is available to buy now for a smidge under £1200 and at the price level you would expect some compromises in design and build quality. So, it goes without saying that the main construction material used with this projector is plastic - and...

Mitsubishi HC3800 DLP Projector Review

It's little, it's plastic and it doesn't cost much. But boy does it perform!

Excellent Greyscale results out of the box ; Reference level greyscale and Gamma when calibrated. ; Unique Anamorphic modes for use with a fixed lens ; Good black level performance at the price point ; Produces good quality images in ambient light ;...

Build quality is not the best ; No lens shift ; CMS system doesn't work fully ; Blue colour error likely caused by colour wheel ; Not the quietest projector around ; Slight colour accuracy issues ; Video processing of SD material is poor

Mitsubishi HC3800

Compact size Impressive big HD images. Great blacks and natural colours. Value for money with long lamp life.

Prefers permanent placement. Only one HDMI input. Dust magnet.

The HD image quality of this Mitsubishi and its longer lamp life are the keys to this projector's appeal. If you can forgive a few minor shortcomings, the HC3800 is an excellent choice among the current affordable 1080p crop.

Mitsubishi HC3800 DLP Home Theater Projector - Product Review

Very good image quality for the price., Good upscaling of analog sources., Variety of aspect ratio settings - compatible with external anamorphic lens., Fast turn on/shut down time., Comprehensive menu settings.

No Lens Shift., Only one HDMI input - No dedicated DVI-HDCP input., Some Rainbow Effect detected., Some audible fan noise when lamp running in standard mode., Could use the addition of adjustable feet in the rear of projector for extra placement...

At a suggested price of $1,499, the Mitsubishi HC3800 DLP Projector is a great value. With its native 1920x1080 (1080p) native pixel resolution and 1,300 lumen output capability, the projected image is detailed and bright, with good color saturation...

Mitsubishi HC3800 HD Projector Review

The Mitsubishi HC3800 HD Projector's features may be similar to other 1080p home theater projectors, but it excels in some areas and falls short in others. The price is a bit higher than nearly identical models, which is something to consider when...

Very good and bright image, low number of color artifacts.

Pricier than similar models; total lumens is low; projected distance is half of that in other models.

It shares many similar features as other models, but is a bit pricier.

Mitsubishi HC3800 Home Theater Video Projector Review

Small and lightweight making the HC3800 less intrusive to install, Black housing, Startlingly good out of box picture quality, Easy to use Menu system, Backlit remote that activates by pressing any button, Smooth film-like picture, 95% Aperture, Sealed...

Negligible lens shift resulting in more time consuming installation, Slightly noisier than comparable 3LCD projectors, although at 25dB it’s still ¼ as loud as projectors from a few years ago., Limited connectivity, although you should be using a good...

Verdict: BUY! Mitsubishi’s new HC3800 is possibly the best projector in it’s class. It features rich, vivid, lifelike colour, excellent contrast, and an incredibly accurate lens. It’s a little more involved to set up than a comparable LCD projector,...

Mitsubishi HC 3800

Excellent video processing., Contrast-rich, bright HDTV pictures., Colour management and gamma controls.

Slight hotspotting., Some shading., Weaknesses in picture presets., Greyscales show cyan tint.

This Mitsubishi delivers an excellent price–performance ratio: The attractive, contrast-rich DLP projection beats that of many similarly priced competitors. But the HC 3800 shows some colour deviations and weaknesses in its presets.
