Sony Bravia VPL-HW15 review

Sony has unveiled a superb cinematic mid-range SXRD projector

Excellent contrast and black levels ; Almost inaudible fan ; Slick styling

Limited lens shift range ; Not the brightest image ; Expensive technology

An excellent all-rounder and a highly persuasive alternative to the DLP or LCD options available on the market

Sony VPL-HW15 review

Sony has made some unusual design choices with its Bravia VPL-HW15 projector. Its angular chassis is longer than it is wide, and looks vaguely like a space ship from a '70s sci-fi series.

An outstanding projector with image quality that can be adjusted to rival the best on the market – we'd have liked frame interpolation too, though.

Sony Bravia VPL-HW15 review

An outstanding projector with image quality that can be adjusted to rival the best on the market – we'd have liked frame interpolation too, though.

The VPL-HW15 it doesn't have as wide a range of features as many other projectors around the £2,000 mark. Frame interpolation in particular is conspicuous by its absence. However it has outstanding picture quality, making it one of the best projectors...

Sony VPL-HW15 Projector Review

Sony's new 1080p projector is enormous, but is the image quality any good?

The Sony VPL-HW15 is quite keenly priced for a 1080p projector, so in the world of projectors, it’s relatively entry-level. However, it produces such excellent image quality it really is worth a second look.

Sony Bravia VPL-HW15

The 1080p Bravia VPL-HW15 is an excellent -- and relatively affordable -- exponent of Sony's SXRD projection technology. It's an attractive machine, it offers a good range of connections and its picture quality is frequently stellar. It's the best...

Superbly sharp pictures; motion is handled very well; attractive design; good range of connections and features; runs quietly.

Dynamic iris can be overly aggressive; some settings can cause video noise; colours could be richer.

With its fast response time and ability to deliver exceptionally fine detail, Sony's latest SXRD projector, the Bravia VPL-HW15, provides a truly spectacular way to watch the World Cup -- or anything else for that matter

Sony VPLHW15

The Sony VPLHW15 may cost you more than a budget 1080p, but the images it presents make it well worth the money.

Some of the best blacks and contrast levels going ; Great picture quality out of the box ; Straightforward set-up

Lacks some positioning flexibility ; Pricier than a lot of the competition ; Relatively expensive to run

Spending more bucks can well be worth it and this Sony is one such projector than equates more outlay into higher quality HD pictures. Its size and slightly limited lens shifting makes it less flexible with placement than some, but if you've the room...
