Yamaha RX-V1700

Yamaha's RX-V1700 is a hard-hitting receiver that packs plenty of punch. At this price you could expect more features but there are no compromises to the class-leading sound quality.

Audio connectivity; accurate auto calibration; powerful all-round performance

Limited video connections; no high-definition upscaling; unresponsive menus

Yamaha RX-V1700 review: Yamaha RX-V1700

Yamaha RX-V1700

HDMI switching for two sources; upconverts all analog signals to the HDMI output; eight digital audio inputs; XM-Ready with Neural Surround; optional iPod dock; can handle second and third rooms with independent sources.

Only two HDMI inputs; subpar analog-to-HDMI upconversion; expensive compared to the competition.

The Yamaha RX-V1700 is a mostly solid A/V receiver with an attractive feature package and excellent sound, but you might be able to find a better overall value.

That the video processing of the RX-V1700 isn't perfect isn't necessarily a deal-breaker. Because every recent HDTV can deinterlace a 480i signal -- that is, convert it to 480p -- the only advantage to having your receiver handle the job is if its...

Yamaha RX-V1700 Receiver Review

The Yamaha RX-V1700™ provides an impressive sound, clear video and smooth 1080P transition from the source to the display device. It doesn't degrade the picture quality. Deinterlacing of 480 interlace video to 480 progressive is performed nicely. The...

The Yamaha RX-V1700™ is a dedicated Home Theater receiver at a higher price. The best strategy will be to do some research on the internet and maybe find a better price, or wait for the prices to go down.

sold everything I had on my previous setup and started from scratch. I wanted a receiver with ultimate flexibility, that could double as a solid pre-amp as I move into seperates later (when $$ allows).
