Canon CanoScan LiDE 700F review

Excellent document and photo quality along with a transparency scanner make this a versatile scanner.

Canon CanoScan Lide 700F

Nowadays, you're more likely to find a scanner stuck to the top of a printer, but there's still a market for standalone devices. The CanoScan Lide 700F is the latest compact home scanner from Canon. A slim device, it packs in plenty of features for its...

The Canon is an excellent scanner, and while the integrated stand is a bit of a gimmick, the 700F has some great features. The film scanning attachment and software are just two of the main highlights

Canon CanoScan LiDE 700F

Unfortunately, as a film scanner, the 700F is ... well ... wimpy—so much so that it's easy to argue that Canon should have left the feature out. The good news is that the limitations for film scanning don't take anything away from the scanner's...

Reasonably capable for photographic prints. Backlight correction and color restore features in driver

Film scan doesn't work for slides. Scans only one frame of film at a time. Film scanning is extremely cumbersome

The Canon CanoScan LiDE 700F handles photographic prints and, to a lesser extent, documents reasonably well, but its film scan capability is best ignored.

Canon LiDE 700F Flatbed A4 Scanner

Initially I bought a dedicated slide scanner costing twice as much as the Lide but gave up on it after many hours of trying. It took me a few hours to get the hang of slide scanning with the Lide but I'm eventually pleased with the results. I've...

Canon CanoScan LiDe 700F

Everything except OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard compatibility ; It's compact, USB powered so it's great for laptop users. The image quality is excellent and it can be controlled from Apple's Image Capture utility. The built in stand folds out of the base...

The Snow Leopard driver software is available from Canon's website and it warns you if you try to use the CD, with a link to the site. Once there however, the software has to be downloaded in bits and once done and installed, the MP Navigator still...

Go with the older LiDE's. This one was worse

Worse than the canoscan lide 110 it was suppose to replace BY FAR! Slower, noisier, more expensive, and plagued with bugs. It's possible I got a defective scanner, however the scan misalignment is something I really only find with low-end cheap scanners.

Easy design Powered by USB lots of added things that have little use, (scanner for my film?)

- VERY SLOW AT HIGH RESOLUTIONS! SLOWER THAN MY OLD LiDE 110 - Won't accurately scan. There is a slight deformation, (square box appears skewed and not paralelle) - CONSTANTLY gives me error "cannot communicate with scanner" half way through a scan!

Does NOT require separate power supply

One of the images for this scanner shows the scanner, box, USB cable, and what is incorrectly labeled as a power adapter. That is NOT a power adapter, it is the attachment for scanning film negatives. This scanner is powered by the single USB cable...

Great scanner. See "Other Thoughts".

excellent quality

Works without any effort with my mac. The available resolutions have been great for scanning family pics (high) and travel receipts (low). Relying on USB power, something I didn't care about when I bought it, turned out to be a nice feature, making...

After downloading drivers for windows, I still got errors. Thankfully, I can just switch over to using my mac to get work done.

Great speed and value

Cover feels very delicate. I just have to handle it like a piece of equipment and be gentle. Not a con, though. Picked it up when they had a Christmas sale and it was well discounted. I would have gone with a cheaper version otherwise.

I love this thing. Scans fast, clear and crisp.

Cover is not heavy enough to press anything flat if you need to scan that sort of thing. I do from time to time, but put a book on the top.
