A portable scanner - but is there any need for it?

Compact ; Can be powered from just one USB port ; Quick scanning time ; Good image quality

Flakey software ; Expensive ; Noisy ; Not for everyone

Overall this is a flawed device that scans well, and is portable, but is also quite expensive and has some installation issues.

Kodak ScanMate i940 review

 

There's a wide choice of document scanners at this price. Though capable, the ScanMate i940 isn't the best

Putting our initial issues aside this is a capable scanner that produces good images quickly. However, the Canon ImageFormula P-215 comes with superior software, feels better made and matches the Kodak for speed and quality. It's a better choice.

Indeed, asking prices in the £300-£500 range are very common. So, at just £259, the Kodak ScanMate i940 has an obvious advantage. But what do you lose in opting for a comparatively cheap model like the i940?

Pushing the envelope for how big a scanner can be and still count as portable, the Kodak ScanMate i940 ($395 direct) comes out of the box looking like nothing so much as an oversize brick covered in black plastic. It also looks a lot like the Editors'...

Fast. Duplex (two-sided). Scans to searchable PDF format as quickly as to image PDF. Can get power from a USB connection

Big and heavy for a portable scanner

The Kodak ScanMate i940 is unusually large for a portable scanner, but it's also fast, offers an automatic document feeder, and can even serve as a personal desktop scanner.

Works well with Windows 8 but make sure to download and install the latest drivers.

Don't bother

 

I packed it right back up and sent it back. IF you want a good business scanner stick with the Fijitsu Scanners... they DO support Evernote and will make your documents searchable... awesome!! Guess what I'm ordering? Certainly won't ever be Kodak junk...

There are none.. it just scans. That is the ONLY pro

After you install their software within it you can clearly upload your scans to Evernote... well wait no you can't. I could not get it to work... so I emailed Kodak.. and I called Kodak... and I emailed them again... FINALLY got an email back saying...
