Ring Spotlight Cam review: Battery-powered security

A motion-detection security camera that offers illumination. Pay a subscription and access recordings too. Is it the simplest home security solution?

Easy to install ; Two battery bays - lasts for potentially months ; Integrates with Amazon Alexa ; Flexible features

No lock on the battery compartment ; Subscription needed for video storage ; No high dynamic range (HDR)

A great camera that's easy to use, combining lighting and video capture into one package. But there's no lock on the battery compartment and you really need to pay for a subscription to get the most out of it.

Ring Spotlight Camera Battery review: Shining a light on your security arrangements

Ring combines a security light with a connected camera and it works well – but subscription costs add up

Powerful spotlight ; Integrates seamlessly with other Ring cameras ; Dual-rechargeable battery bay

Mount could be more flexible ; Video clip quality isn’t great ; Once you add multiple cameras, subscription prices mount

The caveat is that Ring’s subscription prices will hit you in the pocket harder than rivals, and especially if you want to run more than one camera.
