Audioengine A2+: Excellent PC speakers go digital

While they'll cost you $50 more, Audioengine A2+ multimedia speakers improve on an already good product with slightly better sound when hooked to your computer via a new USB connection.

The speakers lack a remote control, the volume control is inconveniently located on the backside, and there's no way to toggle between inputs. The Audioengines are also a bit pricey compared with less refined PC speakers.

Audioengine A2+ Wireless

Audioengine's A2+ Wireless speakers are ideal for anyone who doesn't want to sacrifice stereo separation, accuracy, or DSP-free audio in the Bluetooth era.

Excellent sonic clarity, with a focus on accuracy. Solid connectivity, including output for subwoofer. Handsome, streamlined design. No DSP.

Speakers must be angled upward/elevated on desktops for proper audio experience. Not for those seeking powerful sub-bass.

Audioengine's A2+ Wireless speakers deliver something much of the competition can't: stereo separation. That, along excellent accuracy, makes for a clean, transparent sound signature you don't find among most wireless speakers. In this price range,...

Audioengine 2+

What the Audioengine A2+ stereo speakers lack in extra features, they more than make up for in accuracy and overall performance.

Dynamic, audiophile-quality performance. Sounds clear throughout the frequency range. Uses internal DAC and USB connection for purer audio playback

Wireless streaming only available with an additional, optional accessory. Not for big bass lovers unless you add the separate subwoofer

While most of the consumer audio world has turned its focus to docks and wireless systems, Audioengine remains steadfast in its commitment to the standard two-piece, stereo, bookshelf-style speaker setup. When we reviewed the original Audioengine 2, no...

Audioengine A2+ white

The key thing to note about these speakers and Audioengine's step-up A5+ is that they are bookshelf-style speakers masquerading as PC or "multimedia" speakers (as these things are apt to be labeled). But unlike classic bookshelf speakers, these...

Audioengine A2+multimedia speakers review

We're fans of Audioengine's original 2 series speaker, the A2 , which came out a few years ago and retails for $199.99. Now the company's released the A2+, an enhanced version of the same speaker that adds a USB digital converter, so you can plug the...

Audioengine 2 review: Audioengine 2

Audioengine 2

These compact powered speakers deliver phenomenal sound for their size. They offer simple, attractive styling, and two audio inputs.

The speakers lack a remote control, and the volume control is inconveniently located on the backside, and there's no way to toggle between inputs. The Audioengines are also a bit pricey compared with less refined PC speakers.

Though they're not cheap, the Audioengine 2 speakers are an ideal combination of compact size and good looks, delivering great sound for their size.

Audioengine 2

The $200 Audioengine 2 PC speakers are surprisingly affordable considering their excellent sound.

Accurate, pristine audio performance. Full-bodied but not overpowering bass. Handles high volumes well. Attractive design.

Large footprint. Not for those who seek subwoofer rumble. No remote or extra features.

These small, elegant-looking speakers serve up musical bliss.

Audioengine 2+ Premium Powered Desktop Speakers Preview

Preview: Basically it looks like Audioengine read all the reviews the A2 speakers have gotten and took the biggest complaints and fixed them with the A2+. That just sounds like good business to us.

If you wanted a direct connection from your computer to your Audioengine speakers, the A2+ have what you need. While they are still lacking a headphone output (maybe they are saving that for the A2++), the USB connection is now available. For those...
