Bluesound Pulse Flex

The Flex's luxurious design, versatile operation and sweet sound quality are great, but the lack of DLNA/uPnP makes network setup clunky.

Outstanding build quality ; Beefy, well-balanced sound ; Supports a wide range of streaming services and hi-res formats ; Portable with optional battery

No DLNA/uPnP support ; Clunky network sharing ; Lacks the muscle and width of larger models

Flex’s luxurious design, versatile operation and sweet sound quality live up to Bluesound’s high standards, but the lack of DLNA/uPnP makes network setup clunky

Bluesound Pulse Flex review

This talented wireless speaker remains a strong contender.

Big, open soundstage ; Solid, punchy bass ; Expressive and enthusiastic character ; Hi-res music support ; Flexible connectivity

A price increase and fresh rivals mean the Flex has lost a little ground

The Pulse Flex remains a talented member of the Bluesound family, but newer speakers have overhauled it somewhat

Bluesound Pulse Flex review

If you're into hi-fi, you probably already know the names NAD and PSB (AV electronics and speakers, respectively), but you may not have heard of Bluesound. An offshoot of those two respected marques, it specializes in streaming audio products.

The Bluesound Pulse Flex offers a wealth of features and high-quality sound in a compact package. The shortcut buttons enable you to play music if you've misplaced your phone. The optional battery adds much needed, and still relatively unique, mobility.

It's more expensive than some competitors, the speaker isn't able to go very loud and sound quality is worse than the competitive Sonos product. The optional battery runs out whether playing music or not. No support for Pandora.

The Bluesound Pulse Flex is a slice of streaming hi-fi in an affordable package with an optional battery, but Sonos is better at a cheaper price.

Bluesound's portable Wi-Fi speaker is flexible in name, nature

Doing its best in its struggle against the Sonos juggernaut, the Bluesound Pulse Flex is a slice of streaming hi-fi in an affordable package.

Bluesound Pulse Flex 2i review: This well-built wireless speaker delivers an underwhelming audio performance

Don't be fooled by the distinguished parentage. This pricey Bluetooth speaker from Bluesound has great features, but its sound is a disappointment.

Attractive, well-built cabinet ; BluOS Control app is comprehensive ; Uses Wi-Fi for whole-home audio system, and is compatible with Apple AirPlay 2

Sound is very congested and closed in ; BluOS Control app is somewhat non-intuitive ; Expensive for what’s delivered

Given Bluesound’s reputation with other products, I had expected the Pulse Flex 2i to sound quite good. Alas, that expectation was completely dashed. The overall sound was congested and closed in with no clarity or soundstage at all. The JBL Xtreme 2...

An excellent wifi player

I bought this to extend the bluesound network into another room (replacing squeezeboxes). Everything was quick and easy to set up and does an excellent job of playing from my local library, streaming lossless from Tidal and receiving the sound from an...

Quality built with good sound

I've upgraded from a Logitech Squeezebox and the sound quality is more or less on a par which is pretty good as its half the size. The build quality is excellent and the software is good once you get the hand of it.

Bluesound, what a sound!

I had my mind set on a competitors product but when I heard Bluesound's Pulse Flex 2i it changed my mind the difference was outstanding. It was easy to set up and the presets let my wife listen to the radio without opening an app, although she is now...
