JBL Charge

While we'd love deeper bass, the punchy detail, portable design and good price makes this wireless speaker a worthwhile contender

Punchy, energetic sound ; Good detail ; Goes loud ; Portable and compact ; Easy to use ; Charges smartphone ; Price

A rather coarse and bright treble ; Needs more refinement ; Could do with more weight and deeper bass

Review: JBL Charge

JBL's latest portable Bluetooth speaker is small, but has a huge battery that lasts 12 hours and can charge your phone. Unfortunately, it doesn't offer...

Comes in black, green or blue. Battery lasts 12 hours. Charges your phone. More affordable than similar-size Bluetooth speakers. Small, easy to carry

Sound quality can’t match that of the competition

JBL Charge

The JBL Charge is a decent portable Bluetooth speaker priced like a very good one.

Solid audio performance at moderate volumes, with rich lows and clear mids and highs. Easily portable.

Distorts at high volumes on tracks with deep bass. Slightly overpriced.

Basically, the Charge sounds like a $100 speaker—and if that were the actual price, it would have a higher rating. Bass lovers will need to spend a little more money for wireless speakers that can convey lows with any real sense of power—the Bose...

JBL's Charge delivers a jolt of sound -- and power

The Charge is a nice compromise for those who want a better sounding portable Bluetooth speaker but don't want to make the jump to the Jawbone Big Jambox or Bose SoundLink Bluetooth Mobile Speaker II.

The ; is a compact portable Bluetooth speaker that sounds very good for its size and is designed to be used horizontally or vertically. It also has a built-in USB port that allows you to use the speaker's built-in 6,000mAh lithium ion battery to charge...

No speaker-phone capabilities; can't handle heavy bass at higher volumes without distorting.

The JBL Charge is a nice compromise for those who want a better-sounding portable wireless speaker but don't want to make the jump -- both in terms of size and price -- to something like the Jawbone Big Jambox or Bose SoundLink.

JBL Charge blue

First and foremost, this is a wireless speaker, but it's called the Charge for a reason: it has a USB port that allows you to use the speaker's built-in 6,000mAh lithium ion battery to charge other portable devices, such as a smartphone or tablet.

JBL Charge 5 review: A compact Bluetooth speaker with big sound

Our JBL Charge 5 review looks at a portable waterproof Bluetooth speaker that features up to 20 hours of playtime and includes a power bank.

Compact, water/dustproof design ; Big sound ; Easy to use ; Can pair with other JBL speakers for bigger sound ; All day battery life ; Power bank feature

A bit on the pricey side ; Software app is pretty basic ; No equalizer option in software

If you’re looking for a portable Bluetooth party speaker that will last all day and then some, is waterproof, has big sound, and isn’t unwieldy to carry around, the JBL Charge 5 may be the one for you.

Review: JBL Charge 5 | Party On The Trip JBL Charge 5

JBL Charge 5 plays loud and powerful, and is the one you want to take with you on a ride.

Powerful sound, good battery life, several can be connected.

Slightly sharp treble, no sound settings in the app.

JBL Charge 5 is among the toughest in its class, with juicy bass rhythms and an ability to play louder and with better dynamics than most. It has a long battery life, is easy to use, and it does a lot right. If you want to connect several people in a...

Good midrange and bass tones ; Can charge mobile devices ; Multiple color options

No speakerphone ; No weatherproofing
