Samsung M7

Exclusive review: Samsung squares up to Sonos with its wireless multiroom speaker

Solid build quality and stylish design, Easy to set up, Well-designed app with nifty streaming controls, Enjoyable sound with rich, punchy bass, Hi-res audio support

Sound lacks a little finesse and detail subtlety, Fewer online streaming services than Sonos, Can’t reorganise tracks in app

Samsung Shape M7 review

As of CES 2014, seemingly every electronics manufacturer is taking a shot at wireless audio -- from Panasonic to Samsung to Bose . While Sonos and Squeezebox have been around since the start of the millennium, it took until the last year for the rest...

The Samsung Shape M7 wireless audio system is the best competitor to Sonos yet, with reliable audio streaming and a simple-to-use app. The M7 speaker sounds better than the similarly-priced Sonos Play:3 and has a few bonus features, including built-in...

Streaming services are currently limited to Pandora, Amazon Cloud Player, Rhapsody, TuneIn, and DLNA, unless you use Bluetooth. There's still occasional grumpiness in the form of app nonresponsiveness or dropouts. The ecosystem of products is also...

Samsung M7 Speaker

This can work as a single triangular speaker or via a hub form a multi room offering. It can work wired, wireless, Bluetooth or even via an Auxiliary cable. If this is not enough with the right sort of TV you can improve the TV sound with the M7.

They are useable with or without a provided prop. The shape is rather like a large section cut from a round of cheese. Front to back the speaker is 20cm. Side to side it is 39cm. It is 13cm tall. The prop fits in the back near the connections and makes...

Samsung Shape M7 review

Samsung's first effort at a wireless audio ecosystem is a respectable one, but it is not a Sonos killer.

Some publications have gone so far as to suggest the Samsung Shape M7 could be a “Sonos killer,” and with the Samsung name involved, it’s likely to offer some serious competition. However, while Samsung’s project is a formidable new opponent, we’d...

This isn't a Sonos killer by any means, but Samsung's product line is worth your consideration.

Relatively easy to set up ; Powerful amplifier ; Good sound ; 50 hub required for multi-room configurations

Distorts when pushed too hard ; Large physical footprint ; 50 hub required for multi-room configurations

Sonos Connectwith something like a pair of $399Audioengine A5+powered speakers and you’re there (albeit at a price point 50 percent higher than $500).

Samsung Shape M7 (WAM750)

The Samsung Shape M7 offers plenty of features in a multi-room speaker system, but it doesn't deliver on sound quality or ease of use.

Attractive design. Has Bluetooth and NFC. Accurate midrange performance.

Expensive. Awkward app for Wi-Fi multi-room use. Weak high-end detail.

Conclusion Samsung's Shape M7 wireless multi-room speaker has a lot going for it on paper, but between an awkward and limited app required for Wi-Fi features and a sound signature curiously lacking in high-end, it fails to impress. Its $500 list price...
