Asus Transformer Book T300 Chi review

Sitting at a casual dining table and attempting to adjust the screen on the Asus Transformer Book T300 Chi hybrid for a better viewing angle, a funny thing happened. As soon as I grabbed the slim, metallic top half of the hybrid by the upper left...

The Asus Transformer Book T300 Chi makes good use of Intel's low-power Core M processor, and includes a keyboard dock that works attached or remotely. The screen has a better-than-HD resolution.

Performance and battery life is still not on par with what other slim hybrids and laptops deliver. Some design quirks, such as a poorly placed power button, can get in the way.

This good-looking fanless hybrid works as a slim Windows tablet or an ultra-portable laptop, but still suffers from the same awkward marriage of base and screen as many hybrids.

Asus Transformer Book T300 Chi review

Asus produces a slim, alluring Windows hybrid that takes on the Surface Pro 3 at its own game

The Transformer Book T300 Chi is a competent hybrid. The display is great, the design attractive and, crucially, this is a hybrid that manages to perform well in both tablet and laptop roles.

Asus Transformer Book T300 Chi

The pricey Asus Transformer Book T300 Chi is a very thin, elegant-looking detachable-hybrid tablet that makes some major concessions in the name of portability.

Svelte chassis. Clamshell mode is balanced. Screen's magnetic latch and hinge are very stable. Fanless design, thanks to Intel Core M processor. Performance similar to that of a Core i5-equipped tablet.

Micro ports mean dongles for everything. Can't charge tablet via USB. Bluetooth keyboard needs to be charged separately. Short depth on trackpad. AC adapter's barrel connector fits in headset jack. Hidden media card slot. Bloatware.

Conclusion The Asus Transformer Book T300 Chi is a stylish, powerful detachable-hybrid tablet. The system's balanced clamshell mode and slim design will bring it some fans, as will its performance, which is closer to a Core i5 CPU than an Atom...

Asus Transformer Book T200TA-C1-BL

The Asus Transformer Book T200TA-C1-BL is a good detachable-hybrid tablet for just under $500. While most of its drawbacks are minor nits, there are other systems that give you more storage space and battery life, for the same price or less.

Light 2-in-1 detachable tablet. In-Plane Switching (IPS) screen. User-accessible SATA hard drive bay in dock. Ethernet port.

Only about 40GB free on solid-state drive (SSD). Speakers are a little soft. Micro HDMI and micro USB port. Mediocre battery life.

The Asus Transformer Book T200TA-C1-BL is a decent enough detachable-hybrid tablet for a reasonable price, but systems like the Dell Inspiron 11 3000 Series 2-in-1 (3147), our top pick for convertible-hybrid laptops, give you a lot more storage space...
