Microsoft Surface Pro 2

The Surface Pro 2 is an outstanding hybrid in the true meaning of the word

Much better battery life ; New kickstand adds flexibility ; New touch cover is huge improvement ; The most versatile PC you can buy ; Cooler and quieter

Irritating dynamic contrast on screen ; App store still lacking ; High DPI in desktop mode troublesome

The other is the viewing angle is also a little short of the very best in this category. There's a noticeable of shift from acute angles. Not enough to lose any sleep over, but enough for the Surface Pro 2 to lose a mark.

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 review

Has Microsoft's beefy Windows 8.1 machine found its feet?

Solid magnesium body ; Improved kickstand ; Vibrant display ; Improved OS

Heavy ; Chunky ; Expensive ; Lack of LTE

Building positively on the rather pedestrian Surface Pro, Microsoft's updated slate offers punchier battery life thanks to the inclusion of Intel's Haswell processor, fancier kickstand and the latest version of Windows. That price tag is still...

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 review

The original Microsoft Surface Pro - the "is it a tablet, is it a laptop replacement, and will we argue about this forever?" device - was sort of great and sort of not all at once. It found itself jostling between techie genres, almost trying to...

Excellent screen, Windows 8.1 a better experience, excellent build quality, microSD expansion slot, USB 3.0, smaller and lighter than Ultrabook competitors, better battery life than predecessor

No keyboard included, it's a lot of cash, chunkier and heavier than many tablet competitors, stated storage isn't realised (64GB is approx 37GB), camera quality, no beefy graphics card on board

Surface Pro 2 is a subtle push forward for the device, and a necessary one. It's no giant leap, though, and just like before we're toing and froing between its highs and lows and balance to price point.

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 review

Unlike the Surface 2, the Surface Pro 2 runs the full version of Windows 8.1 so you can install and use all your usual Windows applications. The 10.6in Surface Pro 2 has now been superseded by the 12in Surface Pro 3, reviewed, but has had a price cut...

The Surface Pro 2 crams a serious amount of power into a compact frame. However, now that Microsoft has launched the bigger, better Surface Pro 3, the Pro 2 makes sense only if you're on a tight budget. Even then, its value is questionable - many...

Video: Surface Pro 2 review: Microsoft's unique but compromised tablet is laptop, PC and slate

The Surface Pro 2 can function as full Windows 8 tablet, laptop and desktop PC. But it's not cheap and unless you really need this power in tablet form, you may be better off with a separate laptop and tablet. Here's PC Advisor's Surface Pro 2 video...

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 review

A few choice upgrades have transformed Microsoft's beautiful tabtop from computing novelty to true laptop slayer

Robust, gorgeous design ; Vastly improved battery life ; Everyday computing power to spare

Extras are impressive but expensive ; Not upgradeable

Microsoft's upped the power and fixed nearly all the niggles we had with the original Surface Pro, making it the best laptop/tablet hybrid money can buy

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 reviewed: Small tweaks for a big tablet

This slate sequel has better battery life and performance, but the thick body feels more like a Surface Pro 1.5.

The ; is a faster, longer-battery-life version of the original model, upgraded with a current-gen Haswell processor. The keyboard cover is also improved with backlit keys, and is among the best tablet accessories ever devised.

The Surface Pro 2 remains stubbornly thick and heavy compared with some sleeker competitors. The base 64GB version may leave you starved for storage, and the keyboard cover, practically required, should be included instead of sold separately.

Microsoft's subtly updated Windows 8.1 tablet feels more like Surface Pro 1.5 -- improved battery life and better accessories make it a worthwhile (albeit pricey) laptop replacement, but it's still not an iPad-level category killer.
