Samsung PS60E6500

Samsung's latest mid-range 60-inch plasma TV is a serious bargain.

Outstanding value for money ; Excellent all-round picture quality ; Class-leading online service

Black levels not as deep as some Panasonic plasmas ; A few too many rubbish online apps among the good stuff ; Occasional stuttering with 3D

The Samsung PS60E6500 is one of the biggest and most pleasant TV surprises of the year. Not only is it far and away Samsung’s best plasma TV yet, but it’s arguably our favourite Samsung TV of 2012, period. Especially given how cheap it is.

Samsung PS60E6500 review

Great value 60-inch plasma that brings down both the price and the house with its all-round performance

Excellent 3D Blu-ray ; Upscaling of SD sources ; Smart Hub interface ; Freeview HD & Freesat HD

Can't customise Smart Hub ; Motion judder ; Only three HDMI ins ; Remote not responsive enough

Some are suspicious of a plasma, we suspect as a result of LED-backlighting TVs' dominance in advertising, but plasma is the tech to head to if you're after a good value all-rounder like the enormous PS60E6500.

It may not be the most stylish TV, but it has great black levels and a great price, too.

Despite the deep blacks, the E6500 isn't able to get as bright as other TVs and so contrast suffers ever so slightly. The TV is merciless with noisy sources and presents them as is.
