Sony XR-55A90J Review: One of the best OLEDs | Trusted Reviews

Finding an authentically poor TV is becoming more difficult, but it's still pretty easy to identify the Sony A90J as one of the very best.

Superb picture quality ; Great new OS and remote control ; Some HDMI 2.1 compatibility

Some HDMI 2.1 omissions ; No UK TV catch-up services ; Quite pricey

Sony A90J review (KD-65A90J): Sony's best 4K TV ever, and an OLED masterpiece

The Sony A90J takes its OLED TVs to a whole new level, with a huge brightness boost and next-gen processing, plus PS5-ready features for the first time

Punchiest OLED HDR pictures yet ; Awesome motion and upscaling processing ; Ultra-minimalist design ; Immersive, open sound

No VRR or 4K/120fps with Dolby Vision ; No Dolby Vision game mode ; Missing UK streaming apps

The Sony A90J is a mind-blowing television, offering some of the best HDR performance of any TV so far, matched with Sony's impeccable motion and upscaling processing. It's so vibrant, so rich, so engrossing – it's right at the peak of 4K TVs today. It...

Sony XR-65A90J OLED TV review

Is the A90J as good at 65 inches as it is at 55?

Supremely punchy and sharp ; Peerless motion processing ; Excellent sound by TV standards

Missing/buggy HDMI 2.1 features ; Lacks UK catch-up apps ; Pricier than most rivals

As long as you can live with its HDMI 2.1 limitations, the Sony A90J is the best TV you can buy right now

Sony XR-55A90J review

Simply one of the best TVs we've tested

Outstanding picture quality ; Superb motion handling ; Impressive sound

No VRR (yet), buggy 4K@120Hz ; Missing UK catch-up apps ; Expensive

It’s a pricey proposition, but the A90J justifies its premium positioning with a superlative picture and sound performance

Sony A90J XR OLED TV review: Punchy pictures, punchy price

The top Sony OLED TV for 2021 has extra bright HDR images, an interesting design and great sound. It's expensive and lacks some gamer features though.

Beautifully natural and contrast-rich pictures ; 25% brighter picture potential than predecessor ; Excellent sound quality ; Robust but elegant design

Expensive versus some OLED rivals ; Still awaiting a VRR firmware update - so not great for gamers ; Dolby Vision gaming limitations ; HDR colours occasionally show signs of mild banding/striping noise ; Pricey considering the rivals

This 4K OLED set's combination of a new high brightness panel with Sony’s Bravia XR processing system is a match made in heaven, delivering some of the most outright beautiful pictures the TV world has to offer. A few key features are still missing...

Sony KD-65A90J OLED TV review

The annual grumbles from certain quarters about OLED TVs only making relatively small technological steps forward every year do not apply to Sony's new KD-65A90J. This 65-incher delivers two substantial new chapters in Sony's OLED story: a new panel...

Sony XR-55A90J review

One of the best OLED TVs around... at a price

Outstanding picture quality in every respect ; Unusual and effective sound system ; Nice new Google TV interface

No UK TV catch-up services (yet) ; Not the wall-hangiest TV you can buy ; Not cheap

At a glance, that price might seem optimistic – but everything the Sony does, it does to a dizzily high standard, and in the end the price seems absolutely fair enough.

Sony A90J OLED review

Sony's flagship OLED for 2021 with a brighter panel, HDMI 2.1, and more

Excellent HD, 4K & HDR ; Contrast, black & viewing angles ; Decent TV speakers ; Sony's motion system ; Dolby Atmos support

Too aggressive panel dimming ; Google TV limitations in most regions ; eARC & multi-channel audio issue ; HDMI 2.1 features require firmware update

Sony Bravia XR A90J 4K HDR OLED TV review: OLED advanced

Since CES 2021, rumors have swirled around the Sony A90J OLED TV. Promises of a big boost in brightness and a bold new picture processor have had TV geeks like me salivating. The $4,000 question? Is the hype around this TV — some of which I'm...

Brightest OLED TV Exceptional HDR performance Perfect black levels Stunning detail

VRR still missing

Frankly, the A90J is a work of art and a feat of engineering. I absolutely love it. The challenge is its price, but, fortunately, prices go down over time. Price aside, the A90J is one of the finest TVs you can buy in 2021, and perhaps beyond. It may...
