Sony KD-55XE9305

The KD-55XE9305 is the first TV to reach us from Sony's 2017 TV line. It's a premium model that combines Sony's most powerful video-processing engine with an improved version of the brand's proprietary Slim Backlight Drive technology.

Sony Bravia X9300E (KD-65X9300E) review

Sony's new image processor delivers extreme results

Gorgeous design ; Boasts both HDR10 and Dolby Vision ; Unmatched SDR quality ; Compatible with Bluetooth headphones

Noticeable backlighting ; Expensive for LED/LCD

With its exceptional 4K HDR X1 Extreme processor, the KD-65X9300E delivers fantastic HDR10 and Dolby Vision enhanced images, as well as superb object-based HDR remastering for all SDR content. It may not have the outstanding black levels of Sony's A1...

Sony Bravia XBR-55X930E review

Sony turns to the bright side using its Slim Backlight Drive

Blisteringly bright HDR images ; Stunningly rich colors ; Much-improved sound quality ; Superb HD upscaling

Blooming around bright objects ; Android TV is cumbersome ; Runs sluggishly at times ; Very limited viewing angle

Android TV continues to frustrate, and there’s a backlight clouding price to pay for the TV’s high brightness levels. That said, Sony's X930E series nonetheless improves on Sony’s 2016’s Slim Backlight Drive models in every way, delivering in the...

Gorgeous 4K HDR picture quality ; Convincing black depth ; Clear and solid sound quality ; Support for Dolby Vision and HLG ; Netflix and Amazon in 4K HDR ; Excellent features and design

More black detail wouldn’t go amiss ; Interface response times could be faster

Sony Bravia XBR-65X930E review

High-end tech trickles down

Impressive HDR upscaling ; Local dimming much improved ; Full suite of HDR standards supported

Edge-lit local dimming ; Likely to be pricey

Sony's X930E manages to fit several features found on Sony's higher-end ZD9 into a much more mid-range offering, with some results that, from initial inspection, look very promising indeed.

Sony XE93 4K TV review: Latest picture tech unlocks HDR thrills

The XE93 unlocks all the thrills the very latest picture technologies have to offer while also effortlessly taking yesterday's pictures to places

Its incredibly bright and colourful pictures make high dynamic range sources look spectacular ; Supports a wide range of HDR formats ; Slim Backlight Drive technology is greatly improved from last year’s debut

Can sometimes see backlight clouds around stand-out bright objects ; Screen’s effective viewing angle is limited ; Android TV continues to feel pretty ham-fisted ; Gaming lag could be better too

While not even its cutting-edge Backlight Drive technology can completely solve LCD's issues with controlling light with HDR content, the 55XE9305 nonetheless improves hugely in just about every way on the efforts of its 2016 predecessor.

Sony Bravia KD-55XE9305 (XE93) review: A taste of the high-end for less

Sony's XE93 takes the HDR wizardry of the £4,000 ZD9 and transplants it into a 55in frame – the results are seriously impressive, too

Spectacular HDR presentation ; First-rate upscaling ; Triple-play HDR support (pending firmware update)

Blooming/haloing in dark scenes & inconsistent letterbox bar shading ; Limited viewing angles ; 1080p gaming responsiveness could be better

Sony BRAVIA KD-55XE9305 HDR 4K TV Review

Sony's new XE93 still retains its ultra slim design but now it adds increased brightness and the X1 Extreme processor, with HLG, Dolby Vision and...

Excellent contrast performance ; Accurate greyscale & colour gamut ; Impressive HDR performance ; Great video processing ; Effective dimming system ; Good upgrade path ; Attractive design & great build quality

Limited viewing angles ; Smart platform is still buggy

We expected good things from the Sony XE93 but it still managed to surprise us in certain areas. Although the design has been tweaked, it didn't look vastly different from last year's XD93 and on paper at least the two TVs seemed very similar. In many...
