Sony Master Series Z9G (XBR-85Z9G) review

A state-of-the-art exhibition of what today's cutting-edge TV technologies can do

Stunning 8K picture quality ; Excellent 4K upscaling ; Groundbreaking HDR brightness ; Impressive viewing angles

Some backlight blooming ; High end prices ; No full HDMI2.1 ports ; No HDR10+ support

Sony has pulled no punches with its debut 8K TV series. As well as providing more pixels than any Sony TV before, they also deliver new levels of brightness and processing power. The result is the definition of TV opulence: A dazzling and brave...

Sony Bravia XBR-HX929 review: Sony Bravia XBR-HX929

The first so-called LED TVs were local-dimming models, where the LEDs behind the screen could be dimmed or brightened in different areas to correspond to darker or brighter areas of the picture. The result was excellent contrast, on a level no other...

The Sony XBR-HX929 series produces deeper black levels than any current LCD or plasma TV, giving excellent overall picture quality. It evinces accurate shadow detail and color; offers plenty of video processing options; and can properly handle 1080p/24...

The extremely expensive XBR-HX929 shows some blooming artifacts, and its picture deteriorates more noticeably than usual when seen from off-angle. Its menu and Internet service design is lackluster, and Sony does not include 3D glasses. When displaying...

One of the best-performing LED-based LCDs we've ever tested, the expensive local-dimming Sony XBR-HX929 competes well with the top plasmas.

Sony Bravia XBR-HX909 review

The last Sony TV we reviewed with superb picture quality was the ultra-expensive KDL-55XBR8 from 2008, which also and not coincidentally featured the company's last example of a full-array local dimming LED backlight . That TV's spiritual successor,...

Produces extremely deep black levels; video processing properly handles 1080p/24 material; relatively accurate color with linear grayscale; 3D compatible; 2D-to-3D conversion system works better than expected; numerous streaming video services;...

Extremely expensive; exhibits more blooming than competing local dimming LED models; black areas tinged bluer; subpar off-angle viewing; 3D exhibited ghost images along edges (crosstalk); does not include 3D glasses or IR emitter.

Although its black levels challenge the best ever, some other picture-related aspects of the Sony XBR-HX909 series don't live up to the high price.

A Review of the Sony XBR65X950B 65-Inch 4K Ultra HD 120Hz 3D Smart LED TV (2014 Model)

Sony's 2014 Bravia TVs were major sellers and highly acclaimed 4K TV models when they first came out last year and even though new ultra HD TVs are now on the scene and just over the horizon, these older models still hold their own wonderfully. This is...

Superb color rendering ; Excellent contrast levels, almost on par with HDR ; Full connectivity features ; Extremely bright screen ; Full-array LED backlighting

Expensive ; Somewhat weak sound system for a Sony 4K

The Sony XBR65X950B remains as one of Sony’s best 4K TVs and one of the best on the market in general. Despite being a year old, the X950B series is still cutting edge and bound to satisfy even dedicated 4K display lovers. It’s only downside is a price...

Sony XBR-65X950B 4K LED TV

The X-Reality 4K engine, the best in the market in our opinion at formatting and converting all types of content and resolutions to the 4K native panel. This engine gives Sony an advantage over Samsung and LG in the performance category. Side viewing...

. We viewed these two side by side and the difference in the LCD panel and light flow through is extremely noticeable. The only picture that will compete with this one for 2014 and early 2015 is the new OLED TVs

Good TV but not for me, back to plasma for me.

I was extremely excited to get a new and slightly bigger TV. As a home theater junkie I had been wanting to upgrade to a full 1080p set and something that would compete on black levels with my four year old Pioneer plasma. I had basically decided LED...

This TV gets extremely bright. The black levels can be very impressive. The detail and sharpness when given an excellent feed is very impressive.

The TV struggles on anything less than an optimum source. Our cable tv generally looked average to poor with some channels look significantly worse than others, almost youtube quality. My four year old Pioneer 5080HD outperforms in most situation.

Sony 65'' HX-XBR929 will not Play AVI Video flash Drive

I had my 65'' 929 for a few months now and it plays almost 24/7. The picture quility is still awesome, it plays better now than it did when it was brand new. My only problem less far is the fact that it doesn't play back video ''AVI'' files from a...

Best TV I've ever owned!

Picture is fantastic! Sound is very good. Wish there was more 4K content and I can't sync my comcast remote to operate TV volume or power.

Screen too glossy for daylight operation

The reflections off the screen in daylight rooms is highly distracting. I have white walls that bleed through on a lot of scenes. Back lit venetian blinds are vey distracting. The screen reflects badly in very dark scenes, I like sci-fi, and the space...
