Oculus Rift S Review | Trusted Reviews

Oculus Rift S has evolutionary improvements so drastic it's going to consign the original Rift to the history books, or more likely, the bin.

If the Oculus Rift S is an evolution over what has come before it, at this point it looks set to become VR's apex predator. This is one to watch.

Oculus Rift S review: It's not wire-free but it's still marvellous

It's not quite 'Rift 2', but the second-gen VR headset means fewer wires, more comfort, all while removing the need for separate sensor stations. Ace!

Improved visuals ; Enhanced comfort and usability ; A simplified system that's far less hassle ; Cross-play support and plenty of content ; Room for spectacles

Still the same price as before ; Only has a 3.5mm headphone jack (not USB) for personal headset ; We had some rare motion sickness experiences

The Oculus Rift S brings some welcome enhancements to the already brilliant VR system from Oculus, making for a freer experience with fewer cables. There's plenty to enjoy with this new headset, too, with the lack of true wireless and no USB-C...

Hands on: Hands on: Oculus Rift S review

The Rift's replacement is a step in the right direction for VR

No external tracking stations ; Improved visuals ; Backwards compatible

Reduced refresh rate ; Released near Quest ; Back to the wires...

As a replacement for the aging Oculus Rift, the Rift S is a step in the right direction. It ups the resolution, drops the external trackers, simplifies the setup process, and stays capable of playing all your old games. It’s a better headset in all but...

Oculus Rift S review: A half-step in the right direction

Oculus' latest VR headset is a suitable successor to the original Rift, even if it does feature some maddening design choices

No external sensors required ; Refreshingly easy to use ; Not ludicrously expensive

Speakers aren't good enough ; No IPD slider

Then again, the Rift was in dire need of a refresh, and Oculus has been very careful not to name this headset the Rift 2. It’s the Oculus Rift S, and like most tech products ending in ‘S’, it’s a solid half-step in the right direction.

Oculus Rift S revealed at GDC 2019

The Oculus Rift S promises improved resolutions, easier setup and maximum comfort

In tandem with improved real-world tracking, Oculus has announced a new Passthrough Plus feature that allows users to see the environment around them through the headset with low latency. This means you won’t need to remove the headset to take a brief...

Oculus Rift S review: Just another tethered VR headset

The Rift S isn't a huge upgrade over the original Rift, but it brings Oculus' desktop VR into the modern era. Its built-in tracking works well, and the displays look much better than before. But if you were expecting something truly next-generation...

Built in tracking works well ; Sharper resolution than the Rift ; Halo headstrap is comfortable and secure ; Great motion controllers

Not a significant upgrade over the Rift overall ; Design and build quality is noticeably worse than Rift and Quest ; Quest has higher resolution displays

Oculus Rift S VR headset up for pre-order for $399 (ships in late May)

jThe is a virtual reality headset with a higher-resolution display than the original Oculus Rift, support for inside-out position tracking (so you don't need to place sensors around the room), and a more comfortable design.

The new headset works with Oculus Touch wireless motion controllers and it’s designed to connect to a PC with a relatively decent processor and NVIDIA GTX 960 or AMD Radeon R9 290 or better graphics.

Consumer review (very.co.uk)

Mind Blown

After hearing about the Quest news i was on the fence about buying the Rift S, but boy I'm glad i did. A neighbour of mine bought the Quest and although its great, it's no way in the same league as th Rift S in terms of graphic fidelity and textures....
