Canon Legria HF S10

The Canon Legria HF S10 is pricey, but it's still a great camcorder.

We're still only in March and 2009 is already turning out to be a bumper year for camcorders - credit crunch be damned. Canon knew it had to pull out all the stops with the successor to last year's HF10 and HF11, and in terms of features and quality it...

Canon Vixia HF S10 review

Hands down, the Canon Vixia HF S10 generates the best high-definition video and still images we've seen from a small camcorder.

The great overall image quality, deep manual controls, and decent ease of use make the Canon Vixia HF S10 an excellent choice for both advanced and casual videographers.

Canon Legria HF S10 review

It replaces the Canon HF11 as the company's flagship consumer-level camcorder - which arguably makes it the new benchmark for high-definition video. (After all, the HF11 was one of the best camcorders of its generation).

However, the Canon Legria HF S10 wins out when it comes to manual controls and features. Both models produce excellent picture quality, with Canon’s superior optics providing a slight edge. Unless you specifically require lots of inbuilt storage, we’d...

Packed with pro-style features, Full HD and dual flash recording, could the HF S10 be the best high-def cam yet?

Class-leading movies and the flexibility to shoot exactly how you want make this a real hero camcorder

Canon Legria HF S10 review

Facilitating the maximum 24Mbits/sec bitrate possible under the existing AVCHD specification, the Legria HF S10 produces images that are unquestionably superb. However, importing the raw clips into Premiere Pro CS4 highlighted a number of problems that...

Canon Legria HF S10 review

When it comes to producing easy-to-use camcorders that deliver on picture quality, Canon has an enviable track record – and the HF S10 is no exception. Everything about it screams quality, from its fit, finish and comfortably weighty feel, down to the...

Excellent picture quality even in low light; good range of features; easy to use for novices and enthusiasts alike

Poor microphone placement; no 5.1-channel surround option; no optical viewfinder; control dial is fiddly

Canon Legria HF-S10 review

A fine HD camcorder with a few quirks that make it hard to justify that epic price tag

Stunning HD pics, great stills, pro quality

No EVF, no touchscreen and awkward joystick control

One nagging problem is the ease with which even the slightest amount of wind noise can affect the recorded sound quality. Given that the two microphones are positioned either side of the lens barrel and, therefore, facing sideways, they’re prone to...
