JVC Everio GZ-MG255

JVC Everio GZ-MG255

Decent video quality; compact, easy-to-tote-around design; hard drive is convenient for both playback and editing.

No viewfinder; terrible for low-light shooting.

This compact camcorder offers decent video quality in adequate lighting, plus it offers the convenience of a hard drive.

JVC GZ-MG255 Camcorder Review

The JVC GZ-MG255 is the middle child in this year's Everio hard disk drive camcorder line. In the style of classic middle child syndrome, the camcorder sits meekly in the back of the classroom, ignored and forgettable. It's not that JVC has done...

The JVC GZ-MG255 has some inherent contradictions that make it difficult to recommend for a wide audience. On many levels, it's a point-and-shoot camcorder. Yet it lacks the most fundamental strength that a point-and-shoot must posses: great auto...

JVC GZ-MG255

In terms of video performance, the GZ-MG255 produces an image that is highly saturated in color. The GZ-MG255's 1/3.9-inch 2,180,000 pixel CCD is definitely an upgrade from a standard 1/6-inch chip found on any entry-level camcorder, yet it fails to...

For those who wish to take the reins, the JVC GZ-MG255 features a fairly decent set of manual controls. It includes aperture priority, exposure compensation, Spot Metering, Shutter Priority, focus, white balance, and auto gain control. The GZ-MG255...

Great little camcorder

Bought this after *MUCH* research, and it has most of the features I wanted. Used it on a trip to the Florida Keys with my daughter and in daylight, the video was EXCELLENT! Close up shots were bright and clear, far away was better than expected....

Heavy movie manipulation can be cumbersome. Rename to .MOD to .MPG and you have workable files :) Windy, outdoor settings can cause noise in the mic, which is very sensitive. Photos aren't the best, but that's what a Digital Camera is for ;)

Works better than expected

I had realistic and informed expectations of this camera before purchase based on the reviews at camcorderinfo.com

I was looking for a good quality camcorder that wouldn't give me a fight using Ubuntu Linux or break the bank and the JVC GZ-MG255 was it. Video quality looks nice, does better than I expected in low light. Can record video directly to the SD card. Can...

The lack of a dedicated microphone-only input which I knew before purchase

Good for family recordings but inspect it upon delivery!

My order arrived with a damaged internal CCD unit causing a bright green spot to show up on any video or viewing through the camera. Newegg quickly assigned a RMA and gave me a full return. I plan to purchase another one when in stock again.

small, compact, lightweight ; very easy to transfer videos to PC ; easy menu to navigate through ; good battery life

no viewfinder other than LCD screen ; Must have a steady hand or a tripod; sensitive to any movement ; Poor low-light recording

Review not for this camera

This review is not for this camera. I bought from New Egg a JVC GZ-MG77 Digital Camcorder 10X Optical Zoom 300X Digital Zoom 1/3.9" 2.2M CCD 16:9 Widescreen LCD fr $659.99, which I don't see offered here any longer. But I want to make a comment about...

I thought a hard drive camera would be more stable than inserted media. I was wrong. Tried sight seeing from my battery operated wheel chair. If the camera is on, in my hand and I hit an uneven joint on a sidewalk or street, I loose what I have been...

Fantastic camera!!!

Dont think twice. This is a sweet camera. Newegg ROCKS as usual. Fastest shipping anywhere.

Small. Very nice LCD screen. Great picture, great zoom, easy to use, built in lens cover. NO MINI DV OR OTHER MEDIA TO PURCHASE OR CHANGE!!! For recording our live gigs, we plug it in and let it record 5 hours straight. Awesome. Well done JVC. This is...

Doesnt come with a case. Thats the only thing I can think of
