eMachines T3642

The eMachines T3642 is a cheap PC that's easily available in stores—which is about all it has going for it. Think of it as the PC equivalent of fast food.

Cheap. 250GB hard drive. Tool-free PCI-card slots.

A little slow on some common tasks. Only two (filled) RAM slots. Still a lot of bloatware. Dated integrated graphics. Free Norton Internet Security subscription drops to 60 days. A ball mouse—in 2008?

eMachines T3642 review: eMachines T3642

eMachines T3642

Fast single-core CPU makes up for lack of a second core; large 250GB hard drive; most fully featured desktop in its price range.

Upgrading the memory requires you to throw out the two sticks it comes with.

eMachines nailed the $300-$400 desktop with the T3642. It has a faster CPU, a larger hard drive, and is generally more capable than any other system in this price category. We would recommend it over anything else out there for the same price.
