Lenovo ThinkPad R61 77321EG review

The ThinkPad's chunky matt-black design is a far cry from the sleek designs of most recent notebooks. It feels very robust though.

Lenovo's 1980s-style ThinkPad may look a little old-fashioned, but with decent battery life and a robust chassis, it's still a desirable notebook. It's a sturdy notebook with an excellent keyboard and is fairly light at 2.4kg. It fell behind in some of...

Lenovo ThinkPad R61 power laptop PC

A classic ThinkPad, the Lenovo ThinkPad R61 is full of nice features you don't usually find in a laptop, such as the ThinkLight, an LED that illuminates the keyboard.

The £800 ThinkPad R61 is a nicely designed machine that deserves consideration as a travel-worthy portable.

The T42's integrated fingerprint reader requires some patience, but rewards with increased security. This notebook remains a top pick for business travellers.

No need for passwords, tighter security than older fingerprint scanners

Fingerprint sliding mechanism is time consuming, modest connectivity, excellent battery life

Lenovo ThinkPad R61

A classic ThinkPad, the R61 is full of nice features you don't usually find in a laptop, such as the ThinkLight, an LED that illuminates the keyboard. The R61's 14.1-inch screen and 5.8-pound weight make it an ideal travel companion, too. For a...

Comfortable keyboard

Poor sound

Slim size and light weight make the R61 ideal for taking on the road. Its battery life is unimpressive, however.

Lenovo ThinkPad R61

The Lenovo ThinkPad R61 shares a lot of similarities with the T61 Widescreen, including a sleek design and speedy processing parts.

Various widescreen options and resolutions. Only 5.5 pounds. Heavenly keyboard and dual pointing devices. Modular optical drive that you can swap out for an extra battery. Comprehensive management suite. Good performance scores.

No Wireless WAN options.

Lenovo ThinkPad R61 review

Lenovo ThinkPad R61

The Lenovo ThinkPad R61 has a wide-screen display; an internal roll cage protects the LCD; 802.11n Wi-Fi; dedicated graphics; very small AC adapter.

New Centrino technology doesn't offer outsize performance gains.

The IBM blueprint is still evident in the Lenovo ThinkPad R61, but the addition of a wide-screen display and all the latest Centrino Duo tricks make this a ThinkPad that could woo home users along with its legion of fans among business travelers.

Lenovo ThinkPad T42 2378 (Pentium M 745 1.8 GHz

Great value; excellent performance; bulletproof IBM design; Gigabit Ethernet; great service and support.

Lacks FireWire; no flash media slot; mediocre battery life.

The ThinkPad T42 is a good choice for business professionals looking for a top-notch laptop at a reasonable price.

Lenovo Thinkpad R61

At 5.4 pounds, the R61, even with a widescreen, is over a pound lighter than its earlier version, which weighed 6.5 pounds and came with a standard screen. That suddenly puts it into the same league as the T61 Widescreen. Their dimensions are...

No Wireless WAN options

The Lenovo ThinkPad R61 now comes in a widescreen format and looks a lot like our Editors' Choice, the ThinkPad T61 Widescreen.
