Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 review

The LX2 replaces Panasonic's 8MP LX1

Features ; Build quality ; Price

Operational speeds, noise and smudging

Megapixels make great headlines, but the LX2 suffers from noise and smudging even at low ISOs. That's a shame, because otherwise this is a great camera.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 10Mp compact camera

This camera's ability to capture images in wide-screen format is unique and useful, but the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 is a tad bulky for a point-and-shoot.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 10Mp compact camera enjoys very accurate exposures and takes photos in widescreen format, but it's not cheap and you must pop up the flash manually.

Very good image quality when RAW images are processed.16:9 image format.Image stabilizer. All the most important capture modes.Excellent lens with no distortion.Excellent and powerful software.

Sensitive to noise.JPEG compression a bit too harsh.Best results are obtained with processed RAW images.

Panasonic DMC LX2

My Panasonic DMC LX2 review tests the camera in a number of typical photo opportunities and awards points for each area of performance making it easier to compare against other similar digital cameras.

Bright and clear LCD screen - wide angle lens - well structured menus - lowlight shots - design

Very small internal memory - sun glare problems

The Panasonic DMC LX2 is an advanced digital camera with ten megapixels and a wide angle lens. It has many features you would expect to find on a digital SLR. On the whole the camera performed well in my tests. In fact it was outstanding in lowlight.

Whether the extra 2 million pixels is an advantage is a moot point, partly because smaller pixels bring more noise (and more noise reduction) and partly because this 25% increase corresponds to only 2% more pixels in width...

Panasonic LX2 Review

It has fast performance with 1 sec. startup and no practical shutter lag. It has a 16:9 [HDTV] aspect ratio image sensor and the 28mm wide-angle lens is perfect for landscape and group shots. The 112mm tele coverage is ideal for portraits. An extra...
