Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP3 camera

The new 14.1-megapixel effective resolution Lumix DMC-FP3 compact sports a similar flat fronted design to the FP8 we reviewed last year. But unlike that model the FP3 now features a protective sliding lens cover which shelters both a folded 4x optical...

User-friendly set-up and operational menus, fast and responsive, for the most part a reliable snapper with robust mainly metal construction and 4x optical zoom range makes the price tag appear very good value

Optical zoom disabled when shooting video, not Full HD movies, positioning of lens means that finger tips can creep into shot, noise visible at ISO 400 and above

And yet, with Panasonic suggesting a sales price of £179 at the time of writing, and given that for the relatively modest outlay you're getting a solidly built camera that marries 14 megapixels to a 4x optical zoom within a body depth of just 18.6mm,...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP3 review

Panasonic's Lumix DMC-FP3 is packed with features, but the clunky interface and poor image quality make this a disappointing compact camera.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP3

Svelte snapshot with folded optics and touch screen

The touch screen makes for slightly fussy operation, though it's responsive and image results are consistent. The build and price provide excellent value

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP3 review

The premise of Panasonic's Lumix DMC-FP3 is sound: a slim, attractive camera that's fast, easy to use, and has a touch-screen interface for an extra cool factor. Basically it's what you'd want in your other pocket--the one that doesn't have your camera...

Small and lightweight; fast startup; simple operation.

Slow touch-screen interface; mediocre features and photos for price.

A basic ultracompact point-and-shoot with a touch screen, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP3 can outshoot the average camera phone.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP3

As long as you avoid high ISO levels and don't expect a true touchscreen experience, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP3 is a decent compact camera.

Optical image stabilisation ; Good HD video quality

No wide-angle lens ; Confusing combination of physical buttons and touchscreen ; Too many megapixels for the lens to resolve

As long as you avoid high ISO levels and don't expect a true touchscreen experience, the Panasonic Lumix FP3 is a decent compact camera.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP3 Review

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP3 is an ultra-slim pocket camera featuring a 4x optical zoom lens with a folded optics design. The 14 megapixel FP3 has a sliding cover that protects the lens and also serves as the power switch, while the 3 inch touch-screen...

So do the features of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP3 collectively stack up to offer yet another candidate for the casual photographer's perfect travel companion? The inclusion of HD video (but not HDMI connectivity) alongside the whopping stills...

Unable to zoom on video recording, poor sound quality on video recording

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP3

Easy to use, good quality and for an average photographer it does everything you want. The price is about right for this type of camera

The touch screen could be improved as it is rather slow to react and a little confusing.
