Ricoh Caplio R7

With a 28mm wide-angle and 7x zoom, this new Ricoh should be a popular camera.

Once again Ricoh demonstrates that in terms of technical ability and value for money, its cameras are among the best on the market. The Caplio R7 is an outstandingly versatile pocket compact with an unmatched list of features. It is stylish, well made,...

Ricoh Caplio R7 review

Ricoh may not be one of the big camera names, but when it comes to small snappers it offers excellent value for money. Can this 8MP live up to this pedigree?

Megapixels are a plenty, but the real selling point here is that impressive lens. It’s just a shame that some noise issues cloud matters

Ricoh Caplio R7 review

It'll make you stand out from the crowd

Excellent zoom range ; Good image quality

Some exposure issues ; Vibration control not the best

The Ricoh R7 is an attractive camera but it's not enough of a step forward from the R6 to tempt an upgrade

Ricoh Caplio R7

The Ricoh Caplio R7 is a very interesting digital camera. It has 8 megapixels and a 7x wide, angle zoom lens. It has a few extra features when compared to other smaller compacts. Shutter lag times are low and I liked the test photos I managed to produce.

"The Caplio R7 has an excellent specification and low shutter lag times. It worked well in most outdoor situations and I really like the colours. With a longer than standard wide angle, zoom lens this camera has a lot going for it."

Caplio R7

Ricoh's new Caplio R7 places a 7.1x zoom lens within a relatively slender body. At between 20mm and 23mm thick along the length of its body, it's a major feat of engineering.

Excellent zoom lens. Small size.

Noisy images. Poor stabilization.

The Caplio R7 is a great concept let down by a poor CCD. Most creatives will need to go for a larger model if they want high-zoom facilities
