Ricoh WG-4 GPS review

A toughened and waterproof compact camera that looks strangely familiar

Image quality at low sensitivities ; Wide-aperture lens ; Great build Useful features ; Well priced

Poor screen design ; High ISO noise ; No panorama mode or Wi-Fi ; Little to grip on to ; Almost identical to WG-3 GPS

Great build quality and useful features make the WG-4 GPS a capable action camera that also performs well and usually produces attractive images. However, it's little more than a rebranded Pentax WG-3 GPS.

Ricoh Digital Camera WG-4

This is a small digital camera that can be used in ‘Auto' mode to give you nice images, however should you want more then it can also help you learn and set you on your way to capturing great images should you wish to progress.

The Ricoh Digital Camera WG-4 is a small Waterproof unit that follows the recent Ricoh course of having built in levels and even a clock on the face, I can see the point of knowing you are capturing a straight image on land but if you are under water...

Ricoh WG-4

The Ricoh WG-4 has a lens that matches that of our favorite rugged camera, but its performance isn't quite as good.

Wide aperture lens. Tough, waterproof design. Built-in macro ring light. Shutter priority shooting mode.

Noisy images. On the slow side. Lacks Wi-Fi. Doesn't include dedicated charger. GPS model costs extra.

Ricoh WG-4 GPS and WG-4

NOTE: You might recognize this series under its former PENTAX brand name. PENTAX has decided, going forward, to focus only on interchangeable lens cameras, lenses, and sport optics. Ricoh, as a brand, has been reserved for compact cameras.

Ricoh WG-4 GPS Review

The Ricoh WG-4 GPS is toughened and waterproof camera to take on the likes of the Canon PowerShot D30, Nikon Coolpix AW120, Olympus Tough TG-3 and Panasonic Lumix FT5. It's a direct replacement for last year's WG-3 GPS from Pentax, now rebranded by...

There’s no doubt that the Ricoh WG-4 makes a very good rugged camera. Its toughness credentials may not be the best on paper, but in the hand the WG-4 feels like it’ll survive almost anything you could throw at it.

Ricoh WG-4 GPS Review

The Ricoh WG-4 GPS follows on from last year's Pentax WG-3 GPS, and as will be immediately obvious, perhaps the most significant change for this year is the brandname. We've known for a long time that it was coming, as Ricoh has been very clear about...

The WG-series mounting accessories are available from February 2014. Pricing is set at US$20 for the camera holder, which is needed to use any of the other accessories, while the adhesive mount costs US$45, the handle bar mount costs US$40, and the...

Ricoh WG-4 GPS

Very durable, fully waterproof and dust proof. Easy to see screen. Easy to grip when wet. Easy controls. Good images for a waterproof.

Back screen is plastic or polycarbonate and scratches very easily. No lens cover. Image quality good for a waterproof compact, but not as good as some good non-waterproof compacts. Belt clip scratches the screen.
