Samsung HZ35W

Samsung packs a lot of fun features and a 15x zoom lens into its HZ35W, but noisy images hold this pocket camera back.

15x zoom. Beautiful OLED screen with high contrast, and no motion blur. Micro-HDMI port.

Noisy images in anything other than ideal lighting conditions. Proprietary USB port.

Review: Samsung HZ35W

The Samsung HZ35W would be a great GPS-enabled camera, if it could only give us accurate coordinates.

GPS turns on easily with a switch on top of the camera. Displays current city, state and country on LCD in shooting mode. Map View will tell you where all the local Starbucks, McDonald’s and Bank of America ATMs are

GPS antenna is placed where you put your forefinger on the camera, potentially blocking the signal. Must download maps from Samsung website and store on memory card in camera to use Map View mode. Slowest GPS camera we tested

Samsung HZ35W review: Samsung HZ35W

Samsung HZ35W

Overall good features, design, performance, and photos for its price.

Mediocre low-light photos; confusing GPS setup; using ASM mode is a pain.

Samsung's HZ35W is pretty much an across-the-board improvement from its predecessor resulting in a GPS-enabled compact megazoom worth considering.

Samsung HZ35W

The 15X-optical-zoom Samsung HZ35W ($350 as of June 1, 2010) had the best overall performance score and feature set of any camera in our latest pocket megazooms test group, but our hands-on tests of the camera exposed a few things to think about before...

Excellent image quality ; In-camera GPS integration with Navteq map service ; Very sharp 3-inch AMOLED screen ; Dual digital/mechanical image stabilization ; Largest zoom range of any compact camera

Dual stabilization only in dedicated mode ; Disappointing video and audio capture ; A bit bulky and slippery ; Confusing menu structure

The GPS-enabled HZ35W produces some of the sharpest, highest-quality stills we've seen this side of a DSLR, but its confusing menu system and poor video quality knock it down a peg.

Samsung WB650

Samsung's WB650 looks like the ideal camera for travellers, with 15x optical zoom and GPS tagging.

Review: Samsung HZ35W pocket megazoom camera

The GPS-enabled HZ35W produces some of the sharpest, highest-quality stills we've seen this side of a DSLR, but its confusing menu system and poor video quality knock it down a peg.

Let's start with the laundry list of positives. The 12-megapixel HZ35W's 15X lens (24mm to 360mm) offers the largest optical-zoom range of any compact camera currently available, and this model's dual stabilization feature proves amazingly effective in...
