Samsung WB850F review

Smarter than the average camera

Good low ISO image quality ; Excellent zoom range ; Full manual control ; Wi-Fi enabled

Reds oversaturated ; Battery life reduced with GPS ; GPS slow to lock on ; No raw shooting

The 16.2MP Samsung WB850F is part of Samsung's Smart Camera range of compact cameras that have built-in Wi-Fi to enable images to be shared direct from the camera.

Samsung WB850F review

The Samsung WB850F tended to lag (or even freeze up) when I switched between shooting modes, and its stabilization system became less effective at the telephoto end of the zoom--which is precisely where a user needs it most. Normally, it takes...

I found a lot to like in the Samsung WB850F, including an ample zoom range, well-implemented controls, innovative Wi-Fi capabilities, and good image quality. The camera's GPS features are very good, too, though having to load them onto the camera...

Samsung WB850F review

If there's ever been a more feature-laden camera than the Samsung WB850F, it's eluded our memory. Its headliners are a 21x optical zoom and 1080p video, but that's just the start

Buy it for the features and you'll be disappointed. Ignore them, and the WB850F is a capable big-zoom compact

Samsung WB850F review

  (Rating Hidden)

The Samsung WB850F is a compact model with a large 23-483mm optical zoom and priority modes for more creative photography. It also lets you keep track of your holiday snaps with GPS functionality. But does it take great photos? We sent it to our lab...

This has auto, shutter and aperture priority and full manual modes; It has GPS and adjustable strength flash and wifi, so you can send photos to friends, upload them to social networking sites, or back them up to your computer without cables;Good...

There\'s no viewfinder and the screen is reflective in bright light

Samsung WB850F Digital Camera Review

Daniel Bell reviews the Wi-Fi and GPS enabled Samsung WB850F digital camera, which also has a 21x optical zoom lens.

Feature packed; Wi-Fi functions work really well; Plenty of buttons make it easy to change settings; GPS; Rubber grip on front of camera makes it easy to hold; Colourful images with decent amount of detail; Decent value for money

GPS needs maps downloading prior to use

Samsung WB850F review

As Samsung's latest Smart camera, the WB850F arrives with specification which matches almost any other compact on the market. The question is, is it all for show or does the WB850F offer...

Impressive AMOLED screen, WiFi functionality, design

Slow processing times, lens flare, focus issues

The WB850F arrives with a ‘Smart’ moniker and more features than you can shake a stick at. Unfortunately several usability issues hamper the shooting experience but overall its pros outweigh its cons.

Samsung WB850F: Feature-Filled 21X Pocket Zoom Has Connections

A few years ago, a pocketable camera loaded with this many features would impossible to find. The Samsung WB850F ($350 as of August 6, 2012) boasts a 21X-optical-zoom lens, Wi-Fi sharing capabilities, GPS with in-camera mapping, and a 10-fps burst mode...

Wi-Fi sharing features and in-camera GPS/mapping ; Manual controls and creative filters ; 21X optical zoom lens (23mm to 483mm) ; Good image quality at wide-angle to midzoom

GPS features aren't preloaded on camera ; Laggy reaction time when switching modes ; Blurry long-zoom and low-light shots ; Battery is charged inside the camera

The feature-loaded, 21X-zoom Samsung WB850F is the best Wi-Fi camera we've reviewed, but a few usability hangups keep it from a higher ranking.

Samsung WB850F (with Wi-Fi) review

There are certainly plenty of compact megazooms to pick from these days, but the Samsung WB850F stands out for a few reasons.

The Samsung WB850F is a feature-packed compact megazoom with a versatile lens, very good picture quality, and excellent Wi-Fi capabilities.

The WB850F's shooting performance is a bit mixed, its battery life is mediocre, and its interface, while very good, can take some time to learn.

For snapshooters looking to enter the world of connected cameras, the 21x zoom Samsung WB850F is a good place to start.
