Essentially Freesat's answer to YouView, the Free Time platform combines a backwards/forwards EPG with web-delivered catch-up TV and video on-demand.
Classy white finish; slick Free Time UI; built-in Wi-Fi
Still no Demand 5 or 4oD; limited mobile support; TV Portal not great

Humax is hard to beat when it comes to PVRs and Freeview/Freesat devices. Its products include simple user interfaces, and the HDR 1010S continues with this trend. The box is shiny plastic, sturdy enough for its sedentary duties, and available in black...
Annoying controller aside the HDR 1010S is a solid and highly usable Freesat box. The new on-screen UI is a marked improvement on some of the past offerings and having catch-up TV built in is a handy addition. We’d like to see 4OD and 5 Demand...

The Humax HDR1010S is a Freesat box that beams you down plenty of programming for you to gobble up and it's pretty easy to setup - if you've got a dish installed - but can it keep up with the other set-top boxes in our round-up? Find out how we got on...

The Humax HDR-1010S Freesat receiver includes the new catch-up TV service, plus outstanding connectivity and a big 1TB disk for recording.
The Humax HDR-1010S is a good choice for ex-Sky customers with a satellite dish already installed, or for anyone who struggles with Freeview reception. The box provides a good range of catch-up TV accessible through the new freetime TV guide, making it...

Purchased on behalf of my brother who has had no complaints. He prefers to buy the quality stuff so seems happy with it and saved a fortune on Sky subscriptions.
A bit on the expensive side. Personally I would have purchased the Humax without the hard drive and purchased an external one. Would have been more cheaper and flexible.

Very easy to connect and set up, quality of picture a lot better with HDMI, don't use scart unless you have no choice i.e. its your only connection on your TV
The TV guide/information screen is messy, with a background design, its not a single flat colour, which makes less clear than Sky. Particularly the programme information is harder to read than it should be. I am not sure whether this is Humax, freetime...

No subscriptions ; Great storage capacity ; Looks good
Menus not as simple as Sky ; Would be good if they did it in other colour options (black, red, green, orange etc.) ; Remote control is very clicky/ noisy, unlike rubbery/ soft Sky remote - can be a bit irritating to some
