But some of the best mechanical keyboard brands we've come across simply don't cater for anything other than the Microsoft key layout. Respected keyboard brands that limit their platform support include Cherry, Ducky, Diatec Filco and Topre.

Apple owners looking for an outstanding typing experience need search no further than the Das Keyboard Model S Professional for Mac. But it's black.

Provides excellent tactile, aural feedback. Includes built-in USB hub. Requires no additional drivers.

Expensive. Does not use Apple color scheme.
