Despite plenty of room for improvement, Asus' adorable Zenbook UX21 is an 11.6in Ultrabook with an obvious allure

In everyday use, performance is a non-issue. The 4GB of memory and 128GB SSD keep the system punching well above its weight, and the speed of that SSD allows the system to boot from cold with unnerving haste.

Great for portability but let down by poor battery life

Great design, bright screen, fast resume times, Intel Core i5 chip

Limited ports

The UX21E Zenbook offers great performance and is priced at £850, with accessories included. However, it is still difficult to recommend the device to traveling users based on the limited battery life and poor trackpad.

Kate Bevan: Asus has taken a leaf out of Apple's book and come up with a slimline laptop that's packed with power

beautiful design, good touchpad, battery life, good audio

disappointing screen, no configuration options

However, the design, weight and thoughtfulness of the whole package do justify the price: this is a seriously nice laptop that despite some niggles, is a pleasure to use.

A mix of ultrabook and ultraportable, the Asus Zenbook UX21E-DH52 is a formidable challenger to the 11-inch MacBook Air.

Marvelously thin and light. Bright screen. Nifty AC adapter. VGA and Ethernet dongles and case included.

Stiff, non-backlit keyboard. Reflective screen. No memory-card slot. Lethal power button position.
