Asus U36JC review

One of the best ultra-portable laptops we've seen in quite some time

Lightweight ; Long-lasting battery ; Excellent build quality ; Powerful processor and large memory ; Images appear clear

Yellow tint to the display ; Not the strongest graphics chip ; No DVD drive

For regular travellers seeking power, style and mobility, it's an outstanding compact laptop.

Asus U36JC review

Where the Asus U36JC falls down is in the intangibles: Utilities with cryptic explanations and a poorly designed touchpad.

If you don't want to spend a lot on an ultraportable, the Asus U36JC offers decent power, an attractive screen and good connectivity. But don't expect the kind of attention to detail and clear documentation you'll find on more expensive laptops. And...

Asus U36Jc review

It's not often that an ultra-portable laptop has serious performance as well as mobility, but the Asus U36JC manages it. It's less than 2cm thick and weighs just 1.44kg, but still manages to squeeze in a Core i5 processor and dedicated graphics.

Ample performance, superb mobility and a great design; the U36JC is a fantastic ultra-portable laptop

Asus U36JC-A1 review

If performance and battery life count for more than size and weight, Asus's U36JC-A1 fits the bill. This wide-body notebook offers good performance but is somewhat large and heavy as an ultraportable.

The Asus U36JC-A1 is well-equipped and provides the raw computing power needed to get tasks done on the road, but its size and weight make it less attractive for frequent travellers. It's a executive notebook worth checking if you need high performance...

Ample performance, superb mobility and a great design; the U36JC is a fantastic ultra-portable laptop

The U36JC is a fantastic laptop; the slim, matt black body looks fantastic, the keyboard and screen are both great and performance is unmatched in this weight category. It doesn’t match the miniscule proportions of the

Asus U36Jc Review

Competition among small laptops is more ferocious than ever, and it appears that the once excellent U-Series is now struggling to keep its head above water.

Disappointing is the best way to describe the Asus U36Jc. The company has had much experience in the construction of ultraportables, and seemed to have the formula mastered. Yet this new model has a number of inexcusable flaws.

ASUS U36Jc review

At this point, it feels like almost every laptop under the sun is being described as "thin and light," but the thinnest and lightest with a standard

Really thin, durable chassis ; Standard voltage Core i5 power ; Over 4.5 hours of battery life

Mouse button is frustrating ; No backlit keyboard ; Can run warm

Asus U36JC B1

The Asus U36JC ultraportable laptop ($1000 as of May 23, 2011) has lots of tangible benefits: good power from its second-generation Core i5 processor, lots of ports, and features such as a quick-start mode that lets you browse the Web before you boot...

Packed with features ; Attractive design

Many features are poorly explained ; Touchpad buttons are almost unclickable

If you're more interested in power and features than in polish, this ultraportable laptop could be a good choice.

Asus U36Jc review: Asus U36Jc

Asus U36Jc

Thin magnesium-alloy frame; powerful Core i5 processor in a 13-inch laptop; Nvidia Optimus automatic-switching graphics; USB 3.0 port; sturdy construction.

Not a next-gen Sandy Bridge Intel processor; battery life is good, but not great; no optical drive.

The thin, powerful Asus U36JC-A1 packs a lot of computer under its slim 13-inch hood, but some might want to wait for next-gen Intel processors to sweeten the deal.
