Misses the mark. Alcatel 5.
Big, accurate display ; Minimal bezel ; Decent camera for the price
Ugly design ; Clunky software ; Mediocre performance ; Old version of Android
The Alcatel 5 offers a dominating 18:9 display and reasonable camera performance for around £230. However, a slightly odd design, underwhelming performance and mediocre software make it hard to recommend in a strong field. The similarly priced Moto G5S...

One of the best phones you can get... for the price
Quality all-round design ; Screen feels premium ; Very appealing price point
Some bloatware spotted ; Camera needs the right conditions ; Battery life is poor
Despite a decent screen and solid design, the Alcatel 5 comes across as rather ordinary – until you find out the price. It packs in a lot for such a budget phone, but it's also up against some very strong competition.

What's better than a good top-end phone? A really good one that doesn't cost too much at all

‘‘Go big or go home'' seems to be Alcatel's motto this year as it revealed noless than 7 new budget friendly smartphones. The most premium of the bunch is called the Alcatel 5 and we had the opportunity to try it at MWC.

Newly developed design. The Alcatel 5 is supposed to attract customers as the new design flagship of the Chinese company TCL. In order to do that, it throws out the established design arrangements and reorders them. The result is a smartphone that...
battery life ; low-light performance of the camera ; high-contrast display
aged operating system ; mediocre system performance
The Alcatel 5 attracts users who are looking for a different design and are price conscious. For a price starting at 230 Euros (~$269), interested buyers receive a smartphone with an operating system that is not quite current anymore and has sufficient...

Consumer review (very.co.uk)
Overall the phone is quite good, only thing for me is it's not very loud and can't always hear it ring, so if outdoors I don't hear it so it's very poor sound in my opinion. Just ordered a Samsung because of it, so will now be a tablet for grandkids to...
