The iPhone 7 is still one of the cheapest handset in Apple's range, and is a great buy for those looking for a cheap iPhone.

Good low light camera Water resistant Double the internal capacity

Lacks clear upgrades Same design for last 3 phones Battery life unimpressive

The iPhone 7 offered a slightly longer battery life, a better camera, fast innards and protection against water over its predecessor. While it may not be the top dog in the iPhone paddock, its lower price still makes it an attractive option.

Even without a headphone jack, the iPhone 7 is still one of the finest-sounding smartphones you can buy...

Premium build ; Fast performance ; More vibrant colours ; Good camera ; Refined, rhythmic sound

No headphone jack is inconvenient ; Bundled EarPods are average ; Battery life still needs work

Apple iPhone 7 review: Refining the design rather than ripping it up and starting again

 

So Tim Cook is right: the iPhone 7 is is the company's best iPhone yet. It's just that the best is only slighter better than what we've already had

Refined design and new finishes make for best-looking iPhone to date ; Great camera with image stabilisation ; IOS 10 makes for the most in-depth use yet ; New Home button works brilliantly

More like an S version of the iPhone 6S than a total overhaul ; Still no wireless charging ; No dual cameras feature here ; No true battery improvement ; No headphone jack will irk some

The iPhone 7 is not the overhaul that Apple usually presents us with every two years, but there is enough here to keep those upgrading from the iPhone 6 happy.

Apple's iPhone 7 is the best iPhone you can get, but what about the iPhone 8?

Improved battery life ; Speedy performance ; Waterproof protection

Eye-watering price ; Uninspiring camera

That said, if the new prices are just a little too high for you, then I'd recommend buying a new iPhone 6s instead – particularly now that Apple's bumped up the storage and dropped the prices to £499 and £599 respectively.

Apple iPhone 7 review: Everything you need in a phone, except the headphone jack

 

Beneath a familiar design, the iPhone 7 adds some great improvements, including more speed, water resistance and a better camera. But there is one thing missing.

Improved front and rear cameras -- now with optical image stabilization -- deliver much improved photos, especially in low light. Water resistant. A faster processor, plus slightly better battery life. More onboard storage than last year's models for...

No headphone jack (but there's a dongle and compatible wired headphones in the box). Click-free home button takes getting used to. Only the larger 7 Plus has the cool dual camera. Shiny jet-black version scratches easily.

The iPhone 7's notable camera, battery and water resistance improvements are worthwhile upgrades to a familiar phone design. But ask yourself if you really need an upgrade... and if the Plus might be a better choice.
